To start, long thick hair is a very high beauty standard in India. Indian women are known for their thick hair. For decades they have been using masks, and different techniques to grow and keep their hair thick and shiny. The coconut oil mask is very popular, where you coat the hair root to tip in coconut oil and leave it in a for a few hours and then shampoo the hair. This is known to keep the hair shiny and soft even after washing it out with shampoo. They tend not to use harsh chemicals and products and don't wash their hair everyday as it strips the hair of its natural oils. Hair care is very important and is a loved beauty standard.

Threading eyebrows is a very popular way to remove hair from the brows in order to shape them. Indian women have been using this method for many generations, and has recently become popular in North America. Indian eyebrow threading is a great technique and better than using wax for the brows, while threading is just using a thread to remove the hair, waxing also removes a layer of skin, and you can sometimes get hurt if the wax is too hot and burns the skin.

Having lighter skin is considered more beautiful in this culture. Women use bleaching agents that can cause medical problems such as skin cancer. This also goes for lightening the body also. Some natural remedies may be used such as honey and tumeric, but women and men are going as far as bleaching. South Indians have more of a darker tone, but a lot of Bollywood stars have lighter skin, there are bleaching creams, powders etc. that people with darker tones feel they have to use, as having fair skin is sadly more valued than darker skin.

Indian women have been using turmeric powder for skin care for many centuries. It can be mixed with many things depending on what it is being used for. For skin care is it mainly mixed with yogurt, milk and besan. This gives women glowing skin and it is used for wrinkles also. It is also used for cracked heels and stretch marks. Turmeric is also used before their weddings as the yellow colour in the turmeric adds a beautiful glow to the skin and is also thought to get rid of blemishes and acne.

Lastly henna also known as mehndi in Hindi and Urdu has been used for over 5000 years in India, Pakistan, Africa and the Middle East. Henna has been used for hair dye, used for Indian weddings, and even used as cooling agents. Henna is mainly used in India to create designs with the henna, it goes on wet and the longer you take to wash it off the longer it lasts and comes out dark. It is a way to decorate your body, where some people were not able to afford jewels and gold but could use henna to create designs and to decorate their skin. Henna is also used for other special occasions other than weddings such as holidays and birthdays. Henna comes from a henna plant and is dried when used for the skin it comes in a form of a powder and is grounded into a paste.

A few things that I've learned was the use of henna and the use for holidays, and weddings. I think their weddings are quite beautiful. I've also learned how I can grow my lashes and brows! I love how they use natural remedies as it is much safer, such as turmeric, almond oil, neem oil and the coconut oil mask. Another thing that did catch me off guard was the fact that they use so much natural remedies but bleach their skin. This is very popular with other cultures and I hope other cultures for example certain countries in Africa such as Nigeria, will soon learn to embrace and love their skin tone and find the beauty within it. Bleaching agents are very harmful for the skin, which is why its sad that they use it to change their natural beauty. Overall this culture is absolutely beautiful I love their traditions, and the way they don't depend on buying products that aim to be useful as they would rather go the natural route. To finish, there is so much more to explore with the Indian culture and traditions. This beautiful culture is much different from North America and things are done much more different, although both cultures are very much all the same beautiful!
