Critique: Still today, we don't fully have control of Indian Education. We still operate within the government structure and impositions of governmental controls. Full Indian Control of Indian Education has not been completely realized or fully implemented.

Hard to think about self-determination when these are still the constraints and limitations we experience and face. Still very much alive through Indian Act.

We think what is needed is the continuation of mobilizing our Citizen's plus approach. Continuing our momentum of changing and transforming to fully obtain complete control of building our own systems, policies and structures. Not always so blanketed, but get the people the power.

We make a connection to the collaboration proposed to today, through our Indigenous Education Councils...EC in school districts...confines rights of Indigenous Peoples...doesn't really recognize the Inherent Rights of Communities ex: does not actual extend to overall budget....just targeted funds

How are these institutions, operated in Unceded territories, and the people of the land being oppressed...through the language and our concerns about how this is being taught to future generations...not really being included in the way it should. Unceded rights to land, needs to be fundamentally understood as being the foundation for which edcuation should be done.

The fact that this is a recommendation portrays the subjugation that Indigenous Peoples is under, that still continues today.

Self-determination is not the goal of gov't, it's just lip service.

They gov't does not want to relinquish control.

NVIT is a step in the right direction of Indian control, being the First Public post secondary that has been acknowledge from the government is big win, The institute is a welcoming feeling and is rooted in First Nations values.

maybe the key lies with nations and councils themselves
Indigenous jurisdiction needs to be considered and be allowed to rule
