I have always had Indiginous people in my life, whether it be classmates, friends, family friends, co-workers, or students. I have also participated in a couple of ceremonies and know the traditional territory that I stand on. Although I have had Indiginous people in my life, there is still a lot about their culture and historical and present experiences that I do not know and wish to learn about. I am working on educating myself to build a better understanding of the struggles these people face(d) and how I can help.

I have never participated in a one of the ceremonies because I don’t think about that or their culture. It’s treaty 9 territories . No I have never even talked to an indigenous person and I’m not sure if I’ve ever read a book by an indigenous author because I don’t look.

I have participated in the pow wow at northern college, I participate every year, and I am able to name the traditional territory I stand on. I have had many conversations with different indigenous people, everytime I go to that pow wow and I ask questions on their culture and different things. I have not yet read a book written by an indigenous author, I would really like to read a book on their culture written by an indigenous person.
