"The sun illuminates only the eye of the man, but shines into the eye and the heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy even into the era of manhood. His intercourse with heaven and earth, becomes part of his daily food. In the presence of nature, a wild delight runs through the man, in spite of real sorrows." - Thoreau, Nature

"These are the voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible as we enter into the world. Society everywhere is in conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members. Society is a joint-stock company, in which the members agree, for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder, to surrender the liberty and culture of the eater. The virtue in most request is conformity. Self-reliance is its aversion. It loves not realities and creators, but names and customs." - Emerson, Self-Reliance

My verse doesn't need to be something big. I don't strive to change the world, cure cancer, or leave this huge legacy. For as long as I am on this earth I want to spark joy. I want to make people happy. I want to be the reason someone smiles. The person that always feels like home; safe even when the world isn't. I want to wrap the world in my warmth and love. To let the people I love know I am always there for them no matter what. My goal is a simple one, be a light in a harsh often unforgiving world.

Both the movie and the poem made me question the way I see life. The poem specifically made me wonder what humans' purpose is and what can be done to make life meaningful. This question is followed up by the Movie making me want to emphasize leading a life you want to lead. At the end of the day, what if Neil listened to his heart and didn't care about society's pressures or his dad? Would he still be alive and should his death act as a cautionary tale to show the importance of leading the life you want, in order to truly be happy in life?
