The use of imagery is effective in describing Myra's appearance. "She was tall and brown and good looking.. and the blue eyes she had inherited from the intermarriage of her ancestors generations past." This quote is used to show the reader a strong message about interracial marriage back in the past before apartheid system. La Guma has effectively provoked the reader through the use of imagery as he shows us how interracial relationship is allowed in the past before apartheid system.

Point 2 : In Blankets, La Guma uses

In La Guma's texts, a lot of information is left out, forcing the reader to make their own opinion of what is going to happen/what is happening.
This is apparent at the end of The Lemon Orchard, as the reader is forced to determine what will happen to the black man, which, given the social setting, is probably a beating at the hands of the white men.

In the text 'Blankets', we notice that the main character's name is Choker. La Guma does not mention how he got the name which makes us think about what Choker had done in the past. Although, the text does mention the part where Choker had been sent to prison, maybe he had murdered someone? "His murderous fingers touched the folded edge of the bedding."

Step 1 : Provoke - stimulate or give rise to (a reaction or emotion, typically a strong or unwelcome one) in someone.
Step 2 : Agree
Point 1 - In Slipper Satin, La Guma uses the imagery of Myras town to help convey the message of poverty - " There were the same grey pavements, cracked in places, and there were wide streaks down the wall of the warehouse, damaging the big black lettering." Relating to this Myras life is also damaged due to the conditions she has been living in.
Point 2 - In Slipper Satin, La Guma effectively uses imagery of Myra to appeal to the audience - " She was tall, brown and good looking, with the fullness of lips, the width of the cheekbone, the straight nose and firm chin, and the blue eyes that she had inherited from the intermarriage of her ancestors generations past. Her body was firm, a little hardened from hard work for four months, but still beautiful, the breast full and wide at the bases, the belly flat and the thighs and legs long and shapely." This helps the readers to understand why the men would be attracted to Myra. La Guma uses this imagery of Myra to help the audience figure out why Myra was sent to jail because shes been living in Apartheid it is wrong for different races to have relationships.
Point 3 : La Guma uses imagery of the slipper satin dress to show that Myras sister is seen as being pure as she is marrying her own race whereas Myra chose to go by her own rules and have a interracial relationship causing her family to disown her - "You brought disgrace on us

La Guma uses two types of settings in the text 'Blankets', physical setting and social setting.
The physical setting is what surrounds the area the scene is set in, in this case the scene is all about living in poverty. "It was cooler under the sagging roof, with the pile of assorted junk in one corner; an ancient motor tyre, sundry split and warped boxes...."
The social setting shows us what the people are like and what emotions are being shared, the society being set in the Apartheid era.
