Since opening in 2005, MaRS has built on a rich legacy to create one of world’s largest innovation hubs, a 1.5-million-square-foot complex located in the heart of Canada’s largest research cluster in downtown Toronto. MaRS works with an extensive network of private and public sector partners to help entrepreneurs launch and grow the innovative companies that are building our future — startup ventures with broad economic and societal impact.
As an independent registered charity, MaRS is situated at the intersection of the corporate, small business, government, academic and research sectors. As such, MaRS is able to convene partners from each of these sectors, and foster the collaboration and convergence of ideas that truly drive innovation. MaRS concentrates on the areas of work & learning, health and energy because they feel that our future will be defined by where we work, how our children learn, our ability to access quality healthcare, and how we power our homes and cities.

Learn more and sign-up for free at:

http://www.marsdd.com/about/story/

In connecting with MaRS Discovery District's Education Cluster, my goal was to infuse the learning spaces I facilitate in the TDSB the vision focused on our future and its dependence on innovation. My goal in this was to look towards external stakeholders who could provide transformative approaches (products and services offered by those StartUp companies I advise) to Teaching and Learning and utilize what I could on a day-to-day basis to service the Students and Teachers I work with.

Specifically impacting Students and Staff, I worked with the following StartUps in an advisory role and utilized their product/service in our school setting:

Planboard (https://www.planboardapp.com)

Crowdmark (https://crowdmark.com)

Prodigy Math Game (https://www.prodigygame.com/Canada/)

WorldVuze (https://www.worldvuze.com)

Sesame (https://sesamehq.com/welcome)

Learn more by reading my Blog Post on implementing Crowdmark at my school:

http://classpace.wordpress.com/2013/06/04/crowdmark-completes-successful-eqao-demonstration/
