The semester reading that I chose was 1984. The reason that I chose it is because I remember hearing about it and wanting to read it, but I never had a reason or the time to read it. It's a really good book so far, and it contains lots of interesting information about things that I didn't think about since I live in a democracy and have certain liberties that other people don't have the power of ascertaining.

2. Some might want to ban this book because it displays a dystopian society that many people wouldn't agree with especially in the United States because citizens are endowed with certain unalienable rights. On top of this, some people may see this book as an inspiration and seek to create something similar even though people's thoughts and actions shouldn't be censored. 

3. I don't think that any war can truly be called a good war because death occurs to both sides, so there are no real winners. Moreover, WWII was extremely bloody, and it also included atomic warfare which would later be deemed illegal because it was so deadly. However, there was some good that came out of WWII because it helped to stop the uprising of fascism which was present in Italy, Germany, and Japan. WWII also helped America economically because it assisted in putting an end to the Great Depression since the economy had to grow and produce more to help in the war time efforts. After the war, America was a world superpower because of their success in the war and the rapidly expanding economy.

4. I don't think that America is completely secure from fascism because anything can happen, but I do think that they are well protected from fascism because the way American government has been built. The government is based on a separation of powers which includes a series of checks and balances. These checks and balances help to prevent any one branch of government from gaining too much power over the other two since they are able to keep one another in check. Additionally, the state governments are able to keep the federal government in check and vise versa. 2.  People may want to ban 1984 because of the very serious and plausible topic that it brings up.  Although it would most likely not occur in America without any outside impact, the general idea that this could happen may scare people.  This book may also want to be banned because it gives people the idea of this type of government and world and it may inspire people to stand for this.  
3.  When people call World War II a "good war" they are most likely talking about the impact the war had on America's economy, and the way it mostly halted the communist and fascist movements occuring in Europe at the time.  It is difficult to call a war good, and I actually wrote my analytical paper about the Cold War being good for the United States.  A lot of the economic impacts can be seen as the major positive impacts throughout war, but it is important to not overlook the lives that are lost and the other negative impacts of a war on a nation.  In conclusion, I think it is completely reasonable to call WWII the "good war" as long as you don't overlook the negative.
4.In no way in America forever secure from fascism. I think that America is much more secure from a dictatorship than fascism, but fascism could certainly happen. Personally I feel that the United States most powerful part of government is congress, if it is united. If the general population were to vote enough congress leaders into congress then a more fascist type of government could certainly take hold of the country. I chose to read Nineteen Eighty-four this semester. My mind has been blown so far. It is hard to picture what life would be like without the freedoms we have today. Nineteen Eighty-four goes to the extreme of restricting freedoms on thoughts. This text reveals the reality of life if the government took away all aspects of the peoples voice.
2. Nineteen Eighty-four and from what I researched about Looking Backwards, both reveal to the reader the amount of power the government has. In Nineteen Eighty-four the government brainwashes individuals or completely removes them from society if they go against the government's rules. The US government may want this book banned as conspiracy theories could arise from it or to hide the power they have from citizens. Other leaders from dictating countries may also want this book banned to hide the reality of their government.
3. World War II is the bloodiest military battle in US history, and it exposed awful truths that were occurring during this time period. Although war is never good, World War II is often referred to as the "good war" because America got involved in the war for good reasons and good things resulted from the war. I believe that it is critical to not overlook the horrors and lives lost during this time, but also important to highlight the good that came out of WWII.
4. I do not feel that America will ever be completely secure from fascism, but the United States government has set up the proper balance in hopes fascism doesn't occur. I feel everyone seeks power and power is a dangerous thing. If people don't educate themselves on history and their rights, Americans could slowly use the democracy they have. I chose this book because after doing some research while figuring out which book I would rather read this semester I felt that Nineteen Eighty-four would be a lot more interesting than the book Looking Backward. So far I am really enjoying this book and am glad that I chose it. It brings out a lot of interesting topics that I would never really think about.

2.  Some people might want to ban the Nineteen Eighty-four book because of what it talks about. Which are many things that so many people would not agree with. Some of the things even brought up in the book most likely scare people so they would want to ban it so no one would ever have to be scared. Thinking that it is all being talked as "conspiracy theories". This is also something that would not happen within the United States because of certain rights. The book reveals a lot about power within the government. One last reason people may want to book banned would be because after someone had read it there could be people who would actually want to create that type of society which the information is controlled. 

3. World War II is called the "good war" because the United States had gotten involved with the war for good reasons so that good things could be able to come out of it at the end instead of bad. Such as fighting the democratic nations led by Great Britain and the United States. However in my opinion I do not think that it should be called the "good war". No war is ever a good thing because there are many lives that are being lost. WWII was one of the bloodiest wars to be in history and being very deadly. 

4. No, I do not feel that America will forever be secure from fascism. However, the US government has been trying its best to setup a way for fascism to not occur in America. Looking Backward - I realized I said the wrong book in class but it is giving an interesting aspect to how society in the book is and how live would be in the time period. It's an eye opener to how the author depicted this year. I chose to read about this book because it gives a perspective on life that was prior to my own timeline from someone who lived far from 2000. I thought it would be an interesting read. 

2. Bans on books have been for various of reasons such as the violence, explicit, and information that a book entails which is why many are banned in several different countries. A ban on either of these two books would be because of the content and what message it is giving its readers. People don't want to see or read a book where it gives a separate side of how America is seen and see how in Looking Backward and in Nineteen Eighty-Four where it shows government control that conflicts with how the government is seen today and the beginning foundations of the American government. Banning these books would benefit these people because it would prevent readers from conspiracy against the government or turning away from the government. 

3. WWII should not be considered a 'good war' alongside any other war that takes place in history. This just like other wars was bloody, brutal, and ended the lives of millions. While it can be understood that this can be considered a 'good war' because it was a fight against people who were anti Jew and were for expanding their ideologies in the form of dictatorship, it should not look over the evidently terrible side of the war and what becomes costly in a time like this. 

4. America is not forever secured from fascism because it can never be certain that the people do not fall for the words of a fascist. To further, as seen in the video where people in the United States were in support for the Nazi party and the anti Jew ideals of the party, it is clear that people can still be in favor in someone who held fascist ideals. A fascist is someone who is an extreme nationalist and militarist and believes in the state before the people and how Hitler had once convinced people in time of need that he can fix everything, it can happen here in the States. It is human nature to want a quick resolution, a quick fix for problems and if a politician can tell the people that they know the answers and they know how to solve everything in order to win over the people, it would and it would work. I am not for sure why I decided to go with it. The reading is definetly different than what I am usually going for. The book is pretty interesting and I am mostly enjoying the book as of right now. 2.)Banning books in general is for people who may be to sensitive, do not want other people knowing what really happened either because they are ashamed, or they just do not think it is true. 
3.)World war 2 was definetly a mix of everything. The war was very brutal in all senses. I do not think we should use the name "good war" because it almost contredicts itself. The war killed many people, was highly controversial, and costs tons of money. 
4.)I think we can never fully prevent something like this from happening because who knows what is going to happen in the future. I chose it because of recommendations from others, and I have not been disappointed so far. It's crazy to think about how much freedom Americans have that get taken for granted. The book shows what life would be like it those freedoms including the peoples voice were taken way from us.
2)These books might bring up opinions and points of view that the government may not want us to realize. THey are both about government power and what they could do if we weren't a democracy, even though we aren't a true democracy now. Many people tend to read things like those books, and connect it to the truth, even when they aren't. Conspiracy theories will erupt, and cause anger in ignorant rash people.
3)WWII was not the "good war." This was was full of genocide, fascism, and white supremacy, whether it be from Germany, or the people from other countries that followed or agreed with Hitler's points. On top of that, there is also America's internment camps, along with other things.

So far it has been very interesting, and makes me think about things that I have never imagined. 

2. Some people might want to "ban" Nineteen Eighty-four because it brings up a serious topic in society that some people might not agree with. It shows the affects of a controlling government that takes away people's rights. This could cause panic for readers, because it is a very serious topic that could occur in real life. It could also give some people the inspiration and ideas to create a government that functions the same way. 

3. World War II is called the "good war" because the reasons for America entering war were good. The war had a great impact  on the economy, and helped America overcome the Great Depression. I chose to read Nineteen Eighty-four. I've always wanted to read this because my dad talks about it all the time and it just seemed more up my ally than the other book. I like how this book was written a few decades before 1984, and was written in a way to be an accurate "prediction" to that year but ended up being more accurate to our current years. Although these "predictions" aren't 100% accurate, the themes in the book such as censorship and propaganda are a great example of some of the themes current to today's world. I usually don't like dystopian types of books because they worry me on how realistic they could be, but this one in a classic and I've enjoyed it so far.
2. People (or the government) maybe would want to ban these books, and other dystopian style books similar to them, because they are scared. They are scared that the books will become true, or are already true, and that average people will realize all of this. The two books revolve around unique types government control. If people find the similarities in these books and compare them to the present, past, and future then it can cause free thinking and also hysteria. The government may not want people to speculate their motives, or they just don't want people to be paranoid.. it could go both ways. 
3. I assume World War II is called the "good war" because it is a play on words to World War I being called the "great war". World War II wasn't a good war. Even if most of the conflict was in good faith against the enemy compared to that of World War I, it still was not a good war. It really doesn't matter if this war concluded Nazi Germany and their dominance, none of that ever should have existed to begin with. No war is good.
4. I wouldn't put fascism past the US. Not that we could ever be on the level of Nazi Germany or anything like that, but it's not impossible for it to happen. Because of our democracy and constitution, we have certain rules and checks and balances in place that would hopefully continue to keep us away from something like that, but it's not like there isn't a possibility for it happening. The semester reading that I chose to read about was Nineteen Eighty-Four. This was because I looked more on what the two readings were about and I gained an interest in this reading instead of the other. Just as imagined this has been a really good read that shares how controlling and how the government has lots of power. I would describe this read as one of the most interesting books I've read so far because of the information that has been shared in this that I would have never known about before this.
2. Some would want to ban the Nineteen Eighty-Four book & the Looking Backwards book, because of the amount of power that the government holds in both. In Nineteen Eighty-Four the government is cruel and brainwashes or removes those from society who do not follow what the government orders. This would be banned because the United States would not want others to know the truth on how the government was really like.

Wars are NEVER good to begin with, but World War II happened to be referred as the "good war" because America happened to be involved in a good way to resist and put an end to Hitlers racism and the spread of fascism for a good cause. I chose Looking Back, I chose it mostly because it seemed like a rather interesting read that concerned the aristocrats of the nineteenth century. Often than not you don’t find books about the upper class and well, other things of course. You never really expect such an idea of plot. It’s obviously fictional with the plot it possesses, but it offers a really fine way to take a comparison between two centuries.

These two books both discuss various hardships, the discussion of the power the government has isn’t exactly famous with everyone so it’s no surprise that some people would want to have these books banned.

World War II was not a good war, there’s particularly no such thing as a good war. People die in war and others lose their homes and or families.

America will never be entirely free from facism, there will always be someone who believes facism is the way to go even if our Government set up a proper protocol.

I am choosing to read 1984 this semester. I've only dug in a little but it is crazy to see the differences in that time and today's life. I've never heard of this book before so everything inside is very knew and interesting. 
2. 1984 is very opening about revealing the amount of control and influence the government has. Most of the population was so strongly influenced they were considered brainwashed into thinking the way that the government intended. The government may want to ban this book because it is another reminder of the hard past of the US, and the negative role that the government and other leaders had on it. 
3. WWII is often called the good war because of the good intentions set going into the war. America's initial involvement in the war was based on pure intentions and resulted in good outcomes. Although, WWII was the bloodiest battle in US history so the sad and devastating outcomes should not be overlooked because of the good intentions set. Many lives were lost and they should be honored by not referring to this war as a good one.
