They have a strange sense of right and wrong. They are masked killers. Mothers know that usually the stronger of the two eggs (if they hatch two eggs) will kill the other sibling. Researchers call this 'sibling-cide'. The mother doesn't try to stop this murder, because they have a greater chance of dying if they have two babies. The way they mate is they go on a sort of date, and they would immediately know if they were compatible or not. 2. on one island the weather determines on how big the seeds are which dictates the finches beak size
3. when they have small seeds the next generation has small beaks and when there's big seeds the finches have bigger beaks
4. on other islands that have finches with larger beaks compared to islands with smaller beaks, the finches with larger beaks tend to have shorter life spans
