MONROE DOCTRINE:
- The Doctrine is a document, written by James Monroe and the Congress 1823
- It was a policy statement that created a 'line' between the spheres Europe and America
Through the document it was the Europeans not allowed to establish a colony on the western hemisphere, neither the US nor South America
- As a promise, the US wouldn't attack the Europeans and all the colonies of Europe would stay as they are
- This document was also important during the presidency of J F Kennedy, so he could keep the Russians out
- Today it is important because through it the Americans could extend their territory through Spain.
