How affordable should it be? (What's a reasonable price range that our students could afford?)

- The more affordable, the better. Our students routinely choose cheapest products to stretch their fin aid dollars
- $300-$1500 was range group discussed -- somewhere in middle a good target
- More expensive devices have longer shelf-life, so better ROI
- Group discussed shelf-life of 3-4 years (entirety of JC program) as ideal

What types of functionality should any TBZ device offer? (What should it be able to do?)

- Run a modern browser efficiently (HTML5), like Google Chrome (which is free and simple)
- View PDFs, Adobe digital editions
- Stream video, audio, multimedia (color, resolution needs to be strong)
- Support interactive learning - document sharing, collaborative development, connection to instructor doc, small group learning
- Be able to print (ideally to JC printer*, but at least to personal printer) *This would require significant IT resources to set up
- Take pictures, video, synch video chat, webcam, Big Blue Button
- Needs background that makes reading easy
- Be a tool for just-in-time reference for nursing clinicals

- Focus more on platforms and capabilities than specific device?
- Power: Device needs strong battery life. Make sure we have outlet kiosks so devices can be charged
- Interface: Mouse-required product not ideal (esp. for bedside instruction during clinicals)
- Warranty is key - need good deal to offer students so investment is protected
- Recommend good case(s), to protect device
- Need support, resources for any device we recommend (FAQ list, How To Guides, etc.)
- Professional development to ensure faculty and staff familiar with device
- Need to test plug-ins (like Pearson MyLab testing) on any device
- More Microsoft 365 training for students (and faculty)
- Security considerations, esp. if everyone has the same device? (notebook locks, password protection .... skins, stickers to differentiate between devices)
- Offering simple, cheap e-reader option does not provide what students really need... Probably shouldn't even offer it as an option, because cheap price point will be attractive
- If we go with Surface Pro, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation may provide opportunity for funding?

1. Students will not want to purchase multiple devices. The device we recommend should address their full needs.
2. Students will choose digital text option over textbook in many cases. This will increase need for portability - something they can bring with them to class.

- It will be important to get feedback from faculty and students on device(s) we recommend.
1. Get feedback from students in classes that already offer TBZ option. (Complete)
2. Get feedback from faculty at ALD and FLD in early January 2017. (Complete)
3. Get feedback from students: SEM 140, Nursing, 0-level (DE) classes (survey and/or focus group) - Jan/Feb timeframe
4. Create small test group to test devices - Ideas: Use CSS as venue for students. Create JetNet site with different tests with feedback form to facilitate remote testing.
5. Plan to collect ongoing feedback throughout first year of TBZ. (EvalKit or Microsoft Forms)
6. By March/April -- Decision on device made.
--> Engage with marketing to roll out communication/marketing plan
