Growing up, my sisters and I loved for our mom to read to us. I remember one specific book that she used to read was "Tacky the Penguin". It was about a penguin that loved to sing loudly (and very badly) and saved his friends by scaring bad penguins off with his terrible singing. My mom would do funny voices when she read to us and we would just laugh and laugh. I will always remember this book and I hope to read it to my own kids and students one day.

I remember my parents and sometimes my brother reading to me at night before bed when I was in preschool. The most memorable book was "The Ants Go Marching." My older brother would read it in silly voices and act out what the ants were doing in a silly way. I don't really remember anything about the book, but I can still picture sitting on the bed in my childhood room with my parents while my brother marched around the room.

I remember when she read the whole Chronicles of Narnia series to us and we eagerly listened to her voice and stared at the pictures. Getting us to go to bed was like pulling teeth!

I remember my mom reading to me every night before I went to bed. She would always read a book and then a story from the Bible. My favorite book that she read to me was called "Guess How Much I Love You," by Sam McBratney. It is a story of two rabbits, a mother and a daughter, and it explains how much they love each other. My mom got me a stuffed animal that was a bunny that looked just like the daughter in the story and I still have it to this day. Such a great memory!

The book I remember most is Love You Forever by Robert Munsch. The reason I remember this book is because one night my dad was reading it to be and I can remember him crying and telling me that I will always be his little girl. In Kindergarten, I remember our teaching reading a short story to us during calendar time and most of the time we were read to after recess as well. I don't know why the book I remember most from Kindergarten is Rainbow Fish.

I really enjoyed it when she read to us at night. When I was old enough to understand how to read, my mom would make me read the stories instead of her. If I stumbled on a work she would help me to understand the word by relating it to a song or motion that I understood.

When I was in elementary school, we had parents come to class and read to us every Friday. A common parent reader was my best friend's mom. She read us several books in class, but our favorite by far was Tiki Tiki Tembo, by Arlene Mosel. After the first time she read that book, the class begged for that book every time she came to visit. We all loved that book because of the pattern of the words. The students would all scream the rhyme aloud as she read because it was so memorable.

This was before the ELMO I think, so I just remember being mad if she didn't walk by my row and show me the pictures. I remember some of my reading in upper grades was over the projector with the clear projector paper. We used to read shorter passages on their aloud as a class. At the time, my dad was working as Vise President of a large company and he was traveling all over the world. I just remember he would also want to read when he was home because he know my mom read a lot while he was gone.

Growing up, I remember LOVING to hear stories whether they were from books or oral stories and still to this day I love hearing stories. I remember every night before bed, my mom would come upstairs and lay with me as she read me a story. I can still remember her reading to me when my best friend stayed over. She usually let each of us pick a book and she'd read them both. I also remember spending a lot of time with my grandma and we would read and read and read all day as I sat on her lap. We would sit in her lazyboy recliner with her lions blanket to stay warm. These were honestly some of the best memories from my childhood and I'm not 100 percent positive why that was other than maybe I was around those I hold dear in my heart. The last thing I remember when it comes to read alouds, I always remember loving story time at school and no matter what, I always loved hearing someone tell me the story. While others around me would lay down, talk, or not pay attention, I was always completely absorbed into the story and I can't say that I'm much different these days.

I remember sitting at my desk with the rest of my peers listening to my teacher, Mrs. Wilkinson, read wile she sat at the front of the classroom on a stool. She would read different books to us, but the one that I remember the most was the chapter book "Mr. Popper's Penguins". I do not really remember what that book was about, but I do remember that second grade was the year that I got interested in reading chapter books (even though they did not have pictures).

I grew up with my reading to me all the time. However, memories that I remember more are the times when my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Davis would read. We were constantly reading books in class. She would have a book that she was reading to the whole class. She would also have books that she had us reading. The one book that I remember reading in fourth grade was Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton. I was fascinated by this book and by Bethany (maybe it was because I had never heard or met anyone with the same first name as me). I ended up rereading this book myself several times after hearing it in class.

My most memorable read-aloud experiences came from being read to from a Children's Bible before my bedtime. Every night I remember my mom or dad sitting down and taking time to read me a story, until we got through the entire Children's Bible. Not only was the Bible a gift from my parents, the time they invested in me was an even greater gift. There are so many Bible stories and values that I have a deeper understanding of because they took the time to read to me before bed. It seems like such a simple task, but the fact that most of my memorable reading experiences were at my home, reinforces the idea that I learned to enjoy reading not entirely because of school, but also because my parents invested time in me and exposed me to books at home. I am forever grateful for those moments.

Throughout elementary and middle school, I remember so many different read alouds and stories. However, the most memorable read aloud that I can recall actually happened at home, not school. When I was younger, I remember my dad reading to my brother and me every night before bed. For the longest of time, we worked through the Little House on the Prairie series, and I absolutely loved it! Every night he would just read one chapter to us, and it was one of my favorite parts of the day.

While I have many memories of having a book read aloud to me, my most vivid memories are from second grade. We would come inside from recess and Mrs. Stedfeldt would read a story to us from a kid's Bible. She let us put our heads down on our desk while listening, and I remember this daily ritual as almost soothing. I think why I loved it so much is because my mom would read a story from the same kid's Bible to me every night before bed. These read alouds were something I really looked forward to!

I was read to all the time. My mom read to me a lot. I also went to the library read aloud sessions as well. I remember in the second grade. Every day after recess we came in and Mrs. Jones would read a chapter of a Junie B. Jones book to us. We all sat at the carpet. It was so relaxing. I remember the last day of school she read to us outside. She bought us the red, white, and blue Popsicles (the BEST ones)! We sat under the tree by the playground. She read us the last chapter of Junie B. Jones then we went to play.

My parents would read to me all the time, especially before bed. I do not really recall many read aloud throughout my school life. I do, however, remember being read to in Sunday school class. Every Sunday we would go to children's church and our children's pastor would read a chapter or section form the bible. We read your typical stories such as Jonah and the Whale, David and Galieth, and Noah's Ark. Of course she read more than just those three. We would all sit in our chairs in a circle and listen to her read and give us a mini service.

One of the first things that came to mind is how often my parents read to me growing up. Because I was homeschooled, my parents had more opportunities to read to me.
My favorite book as a child was "Love You Forever". This was my first favorite book because the my Mom read this book to me very often. She would always sing a song with it as well. Even though the character in the book did a ton of terrible things, at the end of the day their parent still loved them very much. My favorite memories were bed time stories. I remember one time in particular my Mom had decided to read a chapter book to my sister and I every night before bed. I enjoyed this time because it was soothing, and I was able to spend time with my family at the end of the day.
