After i read the brief, one of the example themes was 'creatures and hybrids' which helped me to narrow down an idea a bit more.

I am not too focused on this idea as much as my other but i was recomended by my Tutor that mixing my two ideas could be an option so thats something i want to keep in mind.

At first i wanted to do more weird, creepy ones so i used skeletons for two of them but then i liked the idea of making cute little creatures with the animals so i did a bunch with different cats.

Doing this is helping me to expand my creativity and make me think of more combinations and i am thinking of how i can take this kind of thing further into my project by maybe combaining a lot more animals into one or looking for more unique looking animals.

I enjoyed creating this because i had a lot of freedom when doing so since i am pretty much making my own animals but i think i like the one o made on paper better because without the color it looked a bit scarier since it was black and white and i just prefered it more.

I really enjoyed drawing these as it also helped me to practice drawing lots of different animals as i have not really drawn many animals before so it is good to practice especially for this project so i am going to focus a lot on trying different types of species to expand my drawing skills.

I also really liked a lot of the concept art he created for the characters in his film because it showed how they first looked and you could see how they developed and changed in his drawings.

I mixed the insect heads with bird features like beaks and body’s because I did like sketching out birds and the texture of their feathers so i incorporated that into this.

I really like how my bird one looks because the head fits in well with the body even though theyre very different species. I also like the shading i did on these two drawings because i drew them with a biro pen and i think it worked alot better than using pencils because i could get a lot more variation with the shadows.

I also want to look at other types of textures that i could use like fur, feathers or a bone texture i think would look cool.

I don’t think birds are as interesting as the sea creatures because there isn’t much variety in birds. A lot of them look the same and they mainly keep the same shape. But I do like the different feather textures and patterns and also the colours of some o fthese like the dark green and the lighter blue one.

I am thinking of incorporating some of his style when sketching ideas for creatures such as the more softer features and the cuter look because his style would fit really well with what i am aiming to make as i want mine to look a bit creepy and off putting but also still child friendly.

I mostly like the cross hatching effect i did when shading because i think it gives it the Tim Burton feel that i kind of wanted to show in my chracters and i think the mark makings worked really well.

In these sketches i dont like the feathers as much as i thought so i might remove them but i do like the little antenas a made that were inspired by the insect drawings i made.

I also think that my creature doesnt fit very well with the background as much as my other peice because i drew them seperatly.

I just used black white and grey with this peice and also included a lot of the cross hatching throughout the image. The cross hatching gives it i nice effect and makes it more interesting to look at.

I like how the rock looks but i think the ocean i am trying to create doesnt look enough like water so i think i need to add some kind of elemt in the backgrounf like a boat or a wave.

I tried to use colours that were like what Shaun Tan used in some of his designs but i ended up being more drawn to dull and less vibrant shades.

I also tried creating a reflection/light effect on the water by adding a sun beaming through the clouds toward my creature.

i want to include,

• some kind of long tail

• big eyes

• sea creature

• insect inspired face

• big

• maybe red/blue

• some kind of beak

• feathers

i added some final additions to both my peices like aboat in the background and birds flying just so i could fill in the empty space which can i also help with the flow of the drawing and letting everything blend it more.
