It's Dallas' idea that the boys hide in the abandoned church on Jay Mountain. Dallas wants to help them, but ironically, his "rescue" of the two fugitives results in more trouble. 

Dallas' other critical action is to rescue Johnny from the burning church. He saved Johnny's life, but Johnny is still critically wounded.

ERASER: If I could erase anything that Dallas has done, it would be his decision to carry an unloaded gun and to ask for Two Bit's prized jet handled silver switchblade. I can understand why he wants to be armed with the rumble coming up, and he's likely been jumped MANY times, but I think carrying the switch and the gun could have disastrous consequences.

Eraser: what I would erase is the scene where darry tells johnny that he doesn't need his parents. Johnny and Ponyboy go and ask for help. Dallas was "eager" to help Pony and Johnny.  He gave them the money and the gun. He gave them instructions of what to do and how to stay safe. He acts like he does not care but deep inside he does. Though he tried to help the boys stay safe it resulted in more trouble. The abandoned Church on Jay Mountain starting on fire. Then them going in the church and johnny getting very hurt because of this. He might have saved Johnny's life but Johnny is still Critically wounded.
ERASER: If I could erase anything from the way Dallas acts it would be the "Feeling Barrier". He acts so tough in everything. For example "not" caring about his parents and his family, "not" caring about his gang. Just being the tough one. I can sense though that he does. care. If he would have talked through the murder and why it happened. It might have resulted better. They could have gone to the police station. And turned themselves in by telling the story to the police. Then the police might have understood and just put them in jail for a couple of days or even a month. That would have resulted better than Dallas ending up in the hospital and Johnny being in critical condition.

He went in there, afraid of getting caught by the teacher, and saved the kids. It's ironic because he was beat up, soaked, and cold when he went to Dally. If he hadn't have been under dressed, wet and cold, Dally might not have given Pony his jacket. Dally's jacket is what saved Pony's life. Pony could've died if it wasn't for his jacket. ""Here!" Dally handed me a shirt about sixty-million sizes too big. "It's Buck's--you an' him ain't exactly the same size, but it's dry." Eraser: If I could erase one thing about Pony, I would erase that he doesn't use his head. I know that it makes up part of his character, but it would keep him out of a lot of trouble. He wouldn't have gotten mad at by Darry, which meant that Darry probably wouldn't have slapped him.  If Darry didn't slap him, he most likely wouldn't have gotten beat up by the gang. If he didn't get beat up by the gang, Johnny wouldn't have killed a guy. And if Johnny didn't kill him, they wouldn't have gone to the church, start the fire, and Johnny, Pony, and all the kids would be safe. He didn't have to take them he could have just left them after the death of his parents but he stayed. If he hadn't stuck with them they could be on the streets, or maybe with one of the other gang members. Aslo while Johnny, Darry, and Pony where in the hospital Soda and Darry came for them. "Darry was stroking my hair and I could hear the sobs racking him as he tried to keep back the tears. (Hinton 98) Darry Truly loved pony, and in that moment he realized how much that was true.  
Eraser: If there was one thing I would want Darry to do differently would be to not have punched johnny.. if he hadn't done that none of this big mess would have happened. Sure DArry was sorry about it but it still caused a huge problem. Johnny is about to die and Pony and Dally could have died. I now he didn't mean to cause the problem and he is super sorry but that doesn't make up for the things that happened.  If he hadn't done that everything would be ok now im am not sure. Something bad is going to happen someone will probably die. "he should never yell at Soda. no one should ever holler at my brother. I exploded. "You don't yell at him!" I shouted.Darry wheeled around and slapped me so hard that it knocked me against the door. Eraser: If I could get rid of one thing that Johnny did it would be when his mom came to the hospital. I know this isn't very important but it causes him to sit up and pass out which makes the other boys have to leave and worry about him. It worries everyone and makes them wonder even more as to if he would live or not. I wouldn't change when he killed Bob because that created more action and a great story that if you got rid of it the story would be completely different.

He is very rough , but most of the time when and greaser asks for help he is there. He lets them into the house and gives them money and a place to go. He helps rescue Johnny and Pony after Johnny kills the Soc. I think that his character traits are definitely beneficial to the gang. He is different but yet they really need someone like that in the gang.
ERASER: If I could change one thing about Dallas it would be when he talked to the girls at the drive in movie theater. I would erase this because I think it has an impact on Johnny and Pony. It proves to the Socs that greasers actually were what they thought. I puts out a bad name for the greaser. The effect of this was Dallas ended up leaving because Johnny defended the girls. Johnny and Pony are with the girls for a while. Later, because Johnny and Pony had talked with the girls. The Socs drive by. They ended up fighting the greasers. Johnny ends up killing one and has to flee for his life. This all would not have happend if Dallas would have just left the girls alone. "Darry got off and and stalked off, his fists jammed in his pockets and a frown on his face. He didn't come back"

If he hadn't hit Pony, the entire story would be different.
Pencil:  The best thing that Darry did was take care of Pony and Soda, even though he made some mistakes, he meant well. It shows that even though he's a greaser that doesn't define him, he still cares about others. He only wanted to help Pony and Soda have a better life than he's having.
Golden Line: "Listen kiddo, when Darry hollers at you he don't mean nothin'. He's just got more worries than somebody his age out to" . . . "he's real proud of you for being all brainy." . . . "He loves you a lot." (Hinton, 17).

In the clip when the church burnt down. you could see how much Ponyboy regret smoking in the church and how kid's life are in dangers. that is one of the best choices that ponyboy has.
Eraser: if I could erase anything from Ponyboy it would be stop doubting himself. I can see all through the book that Ponyboy doubts himself a lot about him or Darry. I don't think Pony does not know how capable he is, to take responsibility.

Eraser: Something that I would erase for Bob, would be all of the drinking again. Without all the drinking he did, he never would have died, but he did not know that his actions in drinking could kill him.

Big Idea:
The thing is, without drinking, none of the events in the book would have happened. The whole thing lead together, and the drinking is something I want to erase but is also what I think is the most important action in the book, for Bob. He is not super freaked out when Johnny told him he killed a Soc. Instead, he is ready to help him stay clear of trouble with the cops and will come pick them up when everything is done and over with. Dally is a really good person in the gang.
Eraser:
He probably shouldn't have a switchblade and a gun, even though he isn't planning on using it. I think that he should be thinking about the fact that if people see him with these things, and if he threatens people with either of them, he might face consequences.

Pencil: For the important event I chose when Johnny kills the soc. It is wrong to kill someone but it was just self defense and if he wouldn't have defended himself, Johnny and Ponyboy would both be dead.  It is important because it is the event that carries the story and there would be no story without it. 
Eraser: If there was one thing that I would erase that Johnny did, it would be when they ran away.  If they would have just gone to the police and told them the whole story, they wouldn't be in as much trouble as they are.  People will think that a greaser killed a soc. They don't know the whole story or what the socs were going to do to them.  It would just create more hate for the greasers. 
Line for Pencil and Eraser:

I thought that was really brave of Johnny for trying to save his friend, and that I think made him realize that he was capable to do more with his life than just be the gangs pet. This is a pencil becasue Johnny risked his life to save others lives. Johnny saved the kids lives, the kids in the church probably wouldn't have benn able to escape. When Johnny went into the flamming chirch, I thought that was very brave of him.
Eraser: My eraser is when Johhn killed Bob. I think that it was brave of him but becasue he didn't him and Pony ran off to Windrixville then saved the kids at church and casued Johnny's death. If Johnny had not killed Bob they wouldn't have had to go to Windrixville and none of the mess would have happened.

Pencil:  I think for the pencil with Johnny is when he killed Bob. I think that when he killed Bob is a pencil because he saved his friends life. If they had just turned themselves in the kids in the burning down church would have burned to their deaths. But turning themselves in wouldn't be all that bad for them because they probably would have been let go because the only reason that Johnny killed the Soc is because it was for self defense.

Pencil:  The "Pencil" for Johnny is when Johnny kills Bob. I know most people thnk that it was completley wrong and should be my eraser, but think about it. If he hadn't killed Bob, there would be no fire at the church, he would never have seen the golden sunset, and he would never have realized that he wanted to get out and see the world. Sometimes it takes the worst of the worst to realise what it truly means to be gold.
Eraser: Johnny's "eraser" is Johnny and Pony staying when they saw the blue car. I would've earged them not to stay. If they had stayed away Pony wouldn't have almost drowened, Johnny wouldn't have killed Bob, and they wouldn't have to run away. The boys could have gone a completely different route. If they went a different way Cherry could be Pony and Johnny's friend. If they had avoided the drunk guys, there would be no rumble. Nobody would be hurt. Just because you can fight, doesn't mean you should.

Pencil: Dallas doesn't live up to Pony's description of him as being really hardened and not caring about anyone. He really does care about the gang. He gave them supplies and lied to the cops, putting himself at risk. He also saves the lives of Pony Johnny and a bunch of little kids, and ending up in the hospital because of it. He almost gets himself killed for the lives of other. That's proof that he cares. He's willing to risk his life for the gang.

Eraser: My first eraser is for Two-Bit. I wish he hadn't offered Cherry a ride home, because that's kind of what led Bob and Randy to hunt Johnny and Pony down and try to kill them. Which led to all the chaos. Number two I wish Dallas didn't want revenge, that he didn't want to join the rumble. My Pencil:
I am glad that Johnny saved the kids from the fire, he sacrificed himself, and that was a brave thing to do. When he did this, people saw a hero, and a whole new side of Jonny. 
My Eraser:
Johnny is now laying on his deathbed, and the courageous things he did, like at the church fire, will never outweigh the burden he carries from killing Bob. He can't die innocent now, he dies with the burden of murder on him. He doesn't want to die, and he probably wishes he wouldn't have robbed someone else of their life.
