Andre 3000's music has always been a huge influence on the way I perceive and produce music. The way he blends genres and instruments into something completely new is amazing. It's something I always strive for when making music, trying to do something new, even if it's just a small part.

Rage Against The Machine

RATM have had an influence on Andre 3000 because of their sense of urgency and passion when talking about political topics. In an interview with Rick Rubin, Andre states "I wouldn't have done "Bombs Over Baghdad (B.O.B.)" if it wasn't for Rage Against the Machine," he said. "I felt urgency in their music so I was like, "How can I add urgency to what we're doing?". Rubin (2019).

Hieroglyphics

The way Hieroglyphics were rapping influenced Andre 3000, especially during his early work. He states "The way Hieroglyphics were rapping at the time, it was completely new," (Rubin, 2019). Both him and Eminem were influenced by Hieroglyphics, and bonded over their love for their music.

Thundercat

Thundercat has always had a huge influence on me. His solo work has made a huge impact on how I view mixing vocals and bass independently. His sound is very similar to remastered soul music from the 70s. Thundercat's work with Kendrick Lamar was hugely influential to me as well as it changed the way Kendrick's music sounded, in ways such as bringing more of a jazz type of feel to the music.

Prince

As an icon of the era, Prince stood out in the way he acted, dressed and his music. I believe this has been the biggest influence on Andre 3000. In an article about his influences and early life, he talks about how "An older cousin was my role model as a teenager. He was always dressed in fresh, preppy clothes, he had a cool way of talking, and he turned me on to Prince". Hodgkinson (2007).

Tony Williams

Thundercat had always had jazz influences in his life, especially through his father. In an interview with Wally (2020) Thundercat talks about the influence of growing up in a household with "They’d fight with each other over the TV, the remote, they’d hold contests to see who could finish their meals the fastest.“in the background, there would be, like, Tony Williams and Billy Cobham,” Bruner says." Thundercat had always had jazz influences in his life, especially through his father. This type of relationship with jazz heavily influenced his sound and style, where jazz influences can be found everywhere throughout his music.

Billy Cobham

Thundercat has taken influences from Billy Cobham in many different aspects, by doing things differently and changing the way the genre is viewed. In an interview, Thundercat talks about how in every aspect of his life, including home life, jazz has always been present and an influence, either consciously or subconsciously. Wally (2020). This type of relationship with jazz, paired with his father being a jazz musician, would have changed the way Bruner thinks about music and relates to it. Billy Cobham was a big influence on the way jazz music developed through his drumming style.

Suicidal Tendencies

He has always been authentically himself, which makes his music and style unique to himself.
