This debacle interests me quite a lot. I do however think that it is obvious to state, that this "teacher slapping learners'" incident has many dimensions to it. 

Educators are under tremendous pressure to perform daily, and disciple has proven to be one of the biggest  if not the biggest challenge that educators are faced with daily.

However, learners come from different backgrounds and circumstances and this often form their personalities. As an educator one needs to leave the environment when  you feel your life, job/career is under threat.

Much more could be said and it will be interesting to see how this situation plays out.

The way i see this situation is that the learner and teacher has both overstepped their boundaries. 

However going back to the apartheid era, it is evident to know that in this era, the learner never had the leverage to react in the same way as this learner did, if they did , corporal punishment was something they had to undergo.

This brings me back to the point where it is is also seen that being a Teacher in this era that we are living in NOW, is very dangerous and also very overwhelming. Due to many new laws that has been implemented by the government, the job of a teacher became twice as difficult compared to before.

This eventually brings me to my conclusion that i don't fully support what the Teacher did but i do not blame her in any kind of way. She was only defending herself and as usual people tend to take the side of the learner even though the learner was wrong too .

Emotions and abnormal behaviour is often reactive, however, one need to take into account the relational element, language context amongst others. From a relational perspective, one can make the deduction based on the video that there has been issues that led to build-up of this incident. The current teaching environment is extremely stressful and poses many other challenges, hence why these issues be work shopped in a constructive manner to ensure that teachers are better equipped to handle such incidents. Firstly looking at the video one can see that the educator seems to have reached her breakdown point on that learner. Also where the slapping is concerned could be out of reflex moment when someone comes at you because the learners action was taken by surprise but the slapping is no longer allowed to be used on learners as an act of corporal punishment. It is also evident that the learner comes off as aggressive so there are unknown issues as well. I think something needs to be done that gives teachers more authority in the classroom and school. However, the teacher’s behaviour is not acceptable but understandable.
