I think Rivka is really strong to have survived so long. She is only 10, but I think that she is rather like the girl the Badchan described, "How did you get to be so wise, Old girl in young-girl disguise." Rivka knows her way around the camp and that makes her wise, for example, she knows who to talk to and who to avoid. Also people have described her as 'ageless', so she's a old girl in young-girl disguise.

I thought the tone of the chapter was serious because the author described some of the horrible experiences Rivka went through and it really got me to think how lucky I am to live a life where nothing even remotely this horrible has ever happened to me. Although the whole book made me feel lucky, certain parts of this chapter put me in a sad mood. On page 117 it says, "'One of my sisters could not run fast enough to disappear into the midden's sanctuary. They sent her with my mother, right through the door into Lilith's Cave. I can still hear her calling to me to save her, to hide her...'". I have two little sisters and trying to visualize this part of the story sent chills down my spine and I almost wanted to cry.

What I think about the chapter was that Rivka was very helpful by telling Hannah about the camps. I also think that Rivka must be very strong to go through most of her family dying and to go through all this hard labor. Even after all that she still remembers herself and still helps Hannah. At the same time I think Rivka has things to improve like how she just left Ether alone instead of trying to help her.

I think it is good that Rivka is making her follow these 'rules' because if not she could be in serious trouble and her chances at surviving might dwindle. I think Rivka most reminds me of Gitl because Gitl also wanted to make Chaya follow 'rules' so Hannah could have some self hope in a place where there is little. I think Rivka has a very good sense at what is happening in these camps when most don't understand the big picture , because they are trying to make sense of something that doesn't. Also I think it makes every one realize how bad these camps were and how careless, unforgiving, and heartless the
Nazis were.

This was a sad chapter because we have to hear all the sad and terrible things that the people in the camp have to do to survive. You also hear the sad stories about Rivka's family, and the kid Tziporah dies.

It seems almost as if her memories are being rewritten and memories of her former, modern self have vanished. Is this the power of time travel or the power of the holocaust? Which ever it seems to be, I will say that I absolutely love how awesome they make the character Rivka as she so articulated and knowledgeable. On top of that she's only 10 years old. Hannah even thinks that, "She couldn't have been more than 10 years old, yet her face seemed ageless."
