https://padlet.com/learn4life/s117theme4 Made with good vibes en-us 2021-10-08 16:53:31 UTC 2022-03-29 20:48:48 UTC hello@padlet.com https://padlet.com/learn4life/s117theme4/wish/1803137817 When designing learning I think it is also important to consider what do you want the outcome to be?  Sometimes to become a role model for other students, a "good citizen" as they used to call it.  What would you need to do and how long would you need?  Would it happen in one class or throughout the day for a year?  How will this look differently for each student?  How will you know if it is working?  What is the impact on those around the student?  What is the impact for the student?  Does it become intrinsically embedded within the student?  Who notices?  Who responds?  Do you notice any changes?  Does it work?  What could be done differently?  

Have you established a safe, trusting, relationship with the student?  Does it exist peer to peer?  Is the classroom a safe, trusting space that allows for discussion and growth to occur?  Can mistakes be made and learned from?  

Do you model what you want to see in your classroom?  Engage with your students, be kind, caring, respectful in your communication with them.

I like that this will hopefully help students actually stay engaged and curious about their learning.  

When I think about my own experience of being a student, often times when I have been disengaged and bored with what is being taught was when I didn't understand why we were doing something or why we were learning something.

Much like the process of art, engaging with learning by "doing" is where "active" learning may occur. Rather than learning through receptive dimensions (reading, listening, viewing), many students need to actively engage with the material through "representing". This would, of course, require honoring the "process" of learning rather than the "product". I liked the idea of using blind contour as a way to engage the classroom. We did this activity in our art class as well and I found it to be very useful in enhancing our imaginations. When I was a student, I used to think that I am not good in art just because I couldn't draw. Being here has helped me redevelop my thoughts because now I see art as something that's way more than just the ability to draw.

This point really made me reflect on the adults in my life who I felt believed in my success, and what they did to make me feel that way. I feel as though connection and relationship building was at the core of that. It offers student's a style of education that relates to them. This makes content more relatable because of the level of involvement of the student in relation to the content.
