It is estimated that it will save the BBC £30m. The channel was suspected to have been watched by 11.2M people per week when it was a television channel, reaching 25% of 16-24 year olds. 

The BBC Trust said there was "clear public value in moving BBC Three online, as independent evidence shows younger audiences are watching more online and watching less linear TV".
