Germany violated the Treaty of Versailles multiple times and was not punished for it. Due to the economic damages from WWI that left Europe to rebuild infrastructure and grapple with loss of life, countries’ economies suffered. In places like Italy and Germany this gave rise to fascism. In Germany, Hitler was able to gain power as German citizens preferred far-right political powers that they felt could do more to fix the problems left by WWI. The Nazi Party provided an alternative to what German citizens perceived as weaker, less efficient leadership. This fascist regime with Adolf Hitler as its leader became aggressive with militarism and obsessed with moving in on other parts of Europe. Part of the reason for such a high death toll was the new or semi-new technology that was used during the war, such as nuclear bombs, aircraft carriers, and tanks. WWII has a death count of 75 million people with two thirds of that being civilians. The new technology such as the nuclear bombings in Hiroshima and Nagasaki resulted in high civilian death counts. Famines in Russia also resulted in millions of civilians dying. It was the bloodiest war in human history. Many people lost family members and suffered traumas that carried throughout generations. So much death and destruction challenged people's views once again on war and the treatment of people of different races and religions.
