In this picture, "Tituba" one of the enslaved native American workers was accused of witchcraft as people knew that she was native. She was constantly accused of witchcraft as she would tell girls about magic and perform voodoo tricks for them and as the girls were hearing and seeing this, this got them excited and affected their behavior. As she would get accused, no one would stand up for her as she was a slave. Finally, she confessed to witchcraft and talked about the devils book and stated she saw 9 names in that book which stirred trouble within the community. In the end, when the town of Salem realized all was a mistake, Tituba was sold back into slavery

Salem witch trial tests

In this picture, if a woman was accused of witchcraft, a series of tests would be put upon her to see if she was a true test of witchcraft. One example if the accused had a third nipple because that proved to people that she had it to feed a demon baby. Another test was to shave their head and if she was in pain or there was blood, than there's no evidence that shes a witch but if she didn't feel any pain that would be evidence. More tests like putting the accused in a form of water and because it was said that a real witch would float and a innocent person would sink because they stated the water is pure and rejects all evil. We don't know how these tests really worked or not but anything was legal to test the witches because it was a crime against the church and God.

Acting during trials

In this picture, some people were being accused of witchcraft causing a trial. During the trial, a group of girls would always be brought in as witnesses as they were the one who did the accusing. During trials, the girls would "act" like they were under a spell. They would sometimes just freeze or copy the movements of the accused acting like the accused is controlling them. They would even start screaming and crying during the trial saying that the accused witch would hurt them. Although the people during the trial might've believed them, it was all an act. The girls started accusing random people or people with lower standards than them to take the blame of the girls so people wouldn't accuse them instead.

The puritans

The puritans were the first people to settle into America. They were super religious and wanted to convert America to a god-ruled world. They settled here because they did not like Catholic churches or the church of England and was cast out. They all believed in theology and believed in total depravity, predestination, and limited atonement and they all wanted to create a theocracy. They were the ones who started witch hunts as they believed it was that Satan who started it and had an act in the world. As girls would begin to get ill and act differently, it would cause a commotion do their community as they thought it was an act of witchcraft.

During the Salem witch trials, anyone accused of witchcraft with evidence that proves that they were, they would get hung or died in other ways. In the end of the Salem witch trials, 19 accused were hung, 5 people died during time in jail, and 1 was even pressed to death. What that means was a man who was accused of witchcraft had to be tested to get evidence that he was a witch and one of the tests were to put heavy stones on him to "press" his confession out. Many people who were accused find a way to get out of being killed by confessing they did witchcraft even if they didn't but the man didn't choose to. He kept getting more stones on him and the weight kept increasing but he would stay silent. His last words were "more weight" and kept going until the stones were too heavy and eventually killed him. Most accused witches would just have gotten hung but he died during the tests.
