While this is the only outright opposition faced it is worth mentioning a lot of people grumbled in the house privately. It is important to note not all the opposition is directly political per say. The Rote Kapelle did it for the USSR and the Edelweiss Pirates were protesting because they disliked the Hitler Youth and it's restrictions. So you can't really tell if they like Hitler but despise the government policies. After all the Edelweiss Pirates did not exist before Hitler Youth attendance was made compulsory. 
For opposition we can conclude that opposition was not severe before 1938 and private grumbling is always present regardless of which political party is in power so the Nazis were popular enough to ensure most people behaved peacefully. 
Goebbels was minister of propaganda from 1933 onward. He used various means to spread propaganda. (e.g  Volksempfänger, cinema and press were some of the most popular). Propaganda was always nationalist with the intend to indoctrinate yet that did not mean Hitler would gain popularity. Historians agree that propaganda was most effective on those that already believed or complied with the government. On the other hand Hitler once said that clever and careful propaganda could make people see heaven in hell or vice-versa.
