1896       The first powered aircrafts 

 

Samuel Langley made a steam-powered airdrome. It was unmanned, and it flew for about a half mile. 

1901       The first gasoline-powered model 

 

After continuing his studies, Mr. Langley came up with a gasoline-powered engine for his airdromes. 

1903       The Wright Brothers' flights 

 

Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful manned flights near Kitty Hawk in North Carolina. 

1910       The use of air craft carriers is thought up 

 

Eugene Ely decided to try landing and taking off from a ship. He did both successfully, and it paved the way for future air craft carriers. 

1914       World War I brings about better airplanes 

 

During WWI they needed better airplanes for fighting purposes. Many advances were made at this time, including faster and lighter planes 

1918       Airmail is created 

 

The United States Postal Service began using airplanes to deliver mail across the country. It was three days faster than carrying the mail by train. 

1919       The first flights across the ocean began 

 

The US Navy made some of the first flights across the Atlantic Ocean. Soon after that, passenger flights began. 

1925       Better planes and better engines 

 

In 1925, new lightweight, air cooled engines were created. This made the airplanes run better and faster. 

1927       Charles Lindbergh flies across the ocean alone 

 

Mr. Lindbergh made the first solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. He flew from New York to Paris by himself. 

1933       The first passenger planes are made 

 

Boeing made the 247 plane. It could seat up to 10 people. 

1939       The first radars are developed 

 

When WWII broke out, engineers began developing better equipment to help with the war. They developed airplane radars that could detect airplanes flying, even far away. 

1952       The "area rule" is discovered 

 

Pilots and engineers in California tested a theory called the area rule. Using it, they were able to make sleeker, faster airplanes without using bigger engines. 

1969       The first larger passenger jets are made 

 

Boeing came out with the 747. It was a huge jet that could seat many more than the previous 10 people. 

1990       B-2 Bombers are developed in 1990's 

 

During the 90's engineers invented planes using non-metal materials that couldn't be detected by radar. Shortly after that, the stealth planes were invented. The production of bigger and better airplanes continues today, and one can only dream what will come next! 

Trains have been popular since the 19^th century. When the first train was built in 1804, people were worried that the speed would make the train passengers unable to breathe. But by the 1850, passengers were traveling normally. 

The car, automobile, motor car or autocrat usually has four-wheels and is a vehicle that uses its own motor engine system to transport passengers over purposely built roads. Have you ever thought about what the world would be like if cars didn't exist? People use them to get to work, to get to school, and to visit their friends. Without them, businessmen would still be walking to work or riding there on horses. Luckily for us, cars do exist, and they've only continued to get better as more people work on them and invent new ways to help them run more smoothly. After all, the first car wasn't nearly as fancy as cars built today. People had been thinking about cars since the Renaissance age. An Italian named Guido da Vigevano recorded plans for a wind-propelled vehicle in 1335; even Leonardo da Vinci created designs for a sort of gear-propelled tricycle; but, the first real car was built in 1769 by a French inventor called Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot. The "car" was actually a three-wheeled tractor that could only go 2 miles per hour, which is slower than the regular walking speed of a person! Because of this inventors like Karl Benz got to work. Benz was a German inventor who came up with the first patent for a gasoline-powered motorcar in 1886, and he began selling his cars in 1888. Inventing and making history were common for the Benz family; his wife, Bertha Benz, was the first person to make a long distance automobile trip. She took one of Benz's cars and drove it 66 miles, and invented brake lining along the way. The automobile is largely considered a standard possession among consumers, but it wasn't always like that. The automobile we know today was created through a series of individual inventions over a substantial period of time. The first car invented over a century ago was vastly different than the one enjoyed today. 

Transport is the way in which things are carried from one place to the other. Today, the sight of a man travelling to space is quite normal but it has taken a long time for humankind to travel like this. A Wheel! The invention of wheel 5000 years ago changed the way people traveled. Coaches drawn by horses were used. This increased the speed of travel to 20 km an hour from a mere 7-8 km per hour. Wheeled carts also meant that heavier loads could be transported over longer distances. Travel became faster than before. Earliest humans had no fancy transport to travel.

In 1900’s, The first commercial motor car ‘Model T Ford’ was made in America. It was cheap and built in huge numbers. It could reach the speed of 64–72 km an hour. Today, the fastest running car is Ferrarri

 

 

When headlights were first introduced to cars in the 1880s (believe it or not, they weren’t a mandatory feature – or even a feature at all), they were an acetylene and oil mix lamp, similar to gas lamps. But the high cost of oil meant a new system quickly needed to be introduced. Along came electric lamps – although they weren’t without their problems. For a start the filament kept burning out, so the car manufacturers kept working away on a solution.

In 1962, halogen lamps were introduced and became mandatory in many countries – although the US still used non-halogen lamps until 1978.

Enter xenon headlights which gave an even brighter light than halogen and were introduced in 1991. Again, there was some controversy around xenon – who knew car headlights had such a chequered history? Not only is it an expensive way to produce headlights, there’s way more glare from xenon headlights than previous iterations, so new technology had to be developed to counteract that. 

The Wright Brothers, Orville and Wilbur, were American aviation pioneers who created the first successful airplane, thanks in part to their invention of 3-axis control, enabling the pilot to effectively control the plane. 

The Wright Brothers are widely credited with the first controlled and sustained human flight on December 17, 1903 

 

Airplanes have changed in their size, engine systems, control systems, construction, and range and payload capabilities since the first powered aircraft took to the air in the early 20th century. Modern passenger airplanes are larger, faster, more powerful and also more fuel-efficient as compared to early aircraft

In 1769 Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot of France arguably invented the first full-scale, self propelled mechanical vehicle or automobile. It was a steam-powered tricycle. 

In 1807 Nicéphore Niépce and his brother Claude are believed to have built the world's first internal combustion engine. They called it a Pyréolophore. However, they chose to install it in a boat not a car. That same year a Swiss inventor François Isaac de Rivaz finished his own internal combustion engine and used it to create the world's first internal combustion engine vehicle. 

The Benz Patent-Motor-wagen is believed to be the first modern automobile. It was built in 1886 by German inventor Carl Benz. 

In August 1888, Carl Benz's wife, Bertha Benz, became the first person to drive a car over a long distance. Without telling her husband she drove one of their Benz Patent-Motorwagens along with her two eldest sons from a town called Mannheim in southern Germany to Pforzheim. Automobile trips before this were usually short drives, she wanted to prove the automobile they had invented was a useful contraption, that the general public could use 

Henry Ford's Model T car, introduced in 1908, is often regarded as the most famous of all early automobiles. It was the first car to become publically affordable, especially after Ford massively improved the production-line manufacturing system. 

Beginning in the 1770s, many people tried to make cars that would run on steam. Some early steam cars worked well, and some did not. Some were fire pumpers that moved by themselves, and others were small train  with road wheels. Beginning in the 1880s, inventors tried very hard to make cars that would run well enough to use every day. These experimental cars ran on steam, gasoline, or electricity. By the 1890s, Europeans were buying and driving cars made by Benz, Daimler, Panhard, and others, and Americans were buying and driving cars made by Duryea, Haynes, Winton, and others. By 1905 gasoline cars were more popular than steam or electric cars because they were easier to use and could travel further without adding fuel. By 1910 gasoline cars became larger and more powerful, and some had folding tops to keep drivers and passengers out of the rain.
