"Seeing as how Welch was our new home, Brian and I figured we'd make the best of it." This quote shows that Jeannette has perseverance because even though she is in a difficult situation she still tries to turn it into something good. They had just moved to Welch after moving around a lot and Jeannette says she wants to make the best of the time she has there. A lot of bad things happen in Welch but some good things also happen and in the end she ends up persevering and moving to New York.

" I got the cuts and bruises playing outside and the burns from cooking hot dogs. They asked what I was doing cooking hot dogs by myself at the age of three. It was easy, I said. " Jeannette, throughout the story, was very self sufficient in what she did. She did many things on her own. She was pretty smart in school and also had found a job by herself. She was able to move to New York mostly by herself but a little help from Lori. She started her life very self sufficient cooking by herself at the age of three.

"He explained that he was going to hire a truck to cart the garbage to the dump all at once. But he never got around to that, either, and as Brian and I watched, the hole for the Glass Castle's foundation slowly filled with garbage." Rex had promised for a long time that he would construct a house entirely made of glass.Eventually they built a foundation for the house. The foundation had started to fill with garbage and that was the last time the Glass Castle was ever worked on. Rex had broke his promise of making his dream house for the family.

""Everyone has something good about them," she said. "You have to find the redeeming quality and love the person for that." "Oh yeah?" I said. "How about Hitler? What was his redeeming quality?" "Hitler loved dogs," Mom said without hesitation." Even though many things happen throughout the family they still try and find forgiveness in each other. Jeannette owns a large amount of land and after how her mother had treated her throughout the book, she still let her live with her. Jeannette still loved her dad even after she was being used by her dad to make money and her dad stole a good amount of money from her.

All of the kids helped one another move to New York and supported each other. Rex and RoseMary had followed along later on and once again they were all together again. The siblings had always talked ad helped each other out when they needed help.

"In my mind, Dad was perfect, although he did have what Mom called a little bit of a drinking situation. There was what Mom called Dad's. "beer phase." We could all handle that." Jeannette had an unconditional love for her father, Rex. Rex was an alcoholic and the family knew it but they had learned to accept it. Even though Rex had used Jeannette for money at a bar, stole her money, and wasn't around much, she had still loved him even after all of his faults.
