1. My relationship with reading is neutral because I have both positive and negative associations with it. There are times where I am in the mood to read and times where I don't feel like even reading a paragraph. I enjoy reading fictional books especially in the category of mystery or fantasy because it fuels my imagination. However, I dislike books which make me feel like the story drags on for so long without any sort of plot (an example of this could be a school textbook). My distance from reading definitely started once I was being forced to read academically and could not longer enjoy the ones I personally liked. I use the app "Hoopla" which is basically a site to borrow my local library's books online to read.
2. I have many negative associations with writing and unfortunately this plays into a lot of my negative associations with reading as well. I find that many of the times with writing, there are so many requirements and it makes writing no longer entertaining and instead a repetitive sequence of a not only boring but overused format. When the topic I am writing about does not interest me, I often find myself easily distracted and procrastinating on the assignment. I recall many instances where I simply had to rush an essay or write a paper I was not proud of because I was running out of time with no ideas. Some tools I am familiar with for writing are grammarly and easybib. Grammarly checks for spelling and grammar errors while in easybib, you can easily create citations for your source in any type of format (MLA, APA).

1. Currently I have a pretty bad relationship with reading. I usually associate it to be a tedious task I have to do. Though there are some kind of materials I actually enjoy reading. The type of things I can read have to be something I'm somewhat interested in. I enjoy reading manga which are essentially Japanese graphic novels. I tried multiple times to read a tradition chapter book but some just don't really appeal to me. Some tools to help me get around this roadblock would be audio books or having text be read out loud. This puts less of a burden for me to read the words and allow myself to better visualize a story. There is a downside I noticed to the audiobook strategy, I tend to get distracted a lot more times.
2. My current relationship with writing right now is also pretty negative. I tend to dislike English more than any other subject. I've never really written well or anything outstanding for me to notice. Maybe this way of thinking is hindering my progress in English. Since the pandemic started, I started to use typing more which caused me to rely more on auto correction for my spelling. I also use Grammarly to correct basic grammar mistakes I might have made. The best kind of tool I probably could use would be to have someone else read over my writing. Having someone else read over my text allows me to alter my writing to fit my audience better. After all of this I still consider myself as a bad writer.

1. My relationship with reading is not great at the moment. I don't usually read for fun unless it's a book that really caught my attention. I only read when I have to for class. The books that I usually read for class don't really catch my attention or it's probably because I'm forced to read them in order to complete assignments. It could also be that when I read books that are assigned to me I don't get to enjoy them as much. I'm not happy about it but I would like to read more. If I do read I love reading mystery/crime or romance books. They're just so interesting to read and I read them at my pace which makes me enjoy them even more. I don't usually annotate when I read on my own. I do annotate when I need to read for a class ad that helps me refresh my memory about what I read instead of having to read it again. I write key points and questions I have about the reading and if I find the answer I write it under the question. The times that I have read were usually hard copy books. I haven't actually read a book that has been online on my own before. I would usually get my books from the library.

2. My relationship with writing is similar to my relationship with reading. It's not that great that I don't write on my own as much but I do plan to start writing on my own again by creating a personal journal. I've had negative associations with writing so far and I hope that changes. Actually I've had one positive association with writing last quarter in my Human Sexuality class. I had to write a 6-8 page paper about how I developed as a sexual being and I was actually engaged and putting a lot of work into this paper and I got a 91/100 which I'm proud of. It was actually really hard for me to write about myself because I don't usually reflect on my own life unless something bad happened. The writing that I would write before was usually things that happened to me throughout the day or how I'm feeling that day or things I want to learn from past experiences. When I have to write for an assignment I feel very tense and get distracted easily. I tend to do those types of assignments last minute even though I try to get it started as soon as possible. Some writing tools that I'm familiar with are Grammarly and Easybib.

1. I would say my relationship with reading is quite neutral. I do not particularly hate reading, but I also don't quite enjoy it. Personally, I find myself easily distracted by background noise, my phone, my computer, etc. Because of this, reading can be quite challenging and annoying for me. However, I will say it depends on the book/genre that I am reading. Last year, I read the book Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and I was absolutely captivated by the book. Although, I must add I was forced to read it because we were doing a social justice project based on the book for my English class; nonetheless, I found it to be a very enjoyable read. It also helped that we were interacting with the text in class i.e. watching TED talks from the author, answering questions, and having discussions. Because of our interactions with the text and with each other, I enjoyed reading a lot! In summary, whether I enjoy the read or not really depends on what the book is about. In particular, I usually enjoy books about social justice, fiction/fairytales, sci-fi, action, comics, etc. Occasionally, if I see a word or sentence where I need clarification, I look up the definitions online
2. My relationship with writing is also quite neutral! I really enjoy writing in my "Passion Planner" as a way to destress and reflect on my day, week, month, or even year! In this sense, writing is really fun and actually beneficial for me. I find it fun when I don't really have to pay attention to grammar, word choice, punctuation, etc. AKA, I find it more enjoyable to write for myself rather than for a grade. Writing essays and papers has never been my strong point. I have never really felt confident in my writing skills, which causes me to form a negative association with writing. It definitely helps when I have some guidance (an outline for example) to help me organize my thoughts and the points I wish to get across.

1. My relationship with reading is not so great. Most of the time, I do not understand the material that I am reading because it is simply just boring. I can re-read a paragraph 3-5 times, and I will have trouble identifying the main points of it because it is not interesting or somewhat confusing. The truth is, if I didn't have to read, then I wouldn't. I do not like to read. The only reason I do read is because I have to do it in order to get through a writing prompt. I feel like I get forced to read because if I don't, then it could potentially lead me to fail my writing assignments. Although I do not like to read, I only enjoy reading the Percy Jackson and Twilight books.

2. My relationship with writing is slightly better then my relationship with reading, but it is still not all there. I tend to write on a day to day basis, whether it is texting, snapping, posting something on social media, completing a writing assignment, or simply just writing down something on a piece of paper. During the fall quarter, I did a lot of reading and writing, and it was not fun. It was back to back reading and writing, for all of my 12 units, and I just felt like it was way too overwhelming. I have never really had any confidence in my writing skills, but I usually tend to get decent scores and relatively good feedback.

I must be honest in saying that I don't currently have a very good relationship with reading; That is, I do not usually read more than the academic readings that I do for my other courses, this is because currently I consider that my time does not leave me long enough to be able to read a book by myself; However, previously I used to read novels by Latino writers mainly, I also like to read science fiction or horror books, my saga of favorite books is The maze runner, which I consider is a very apocalyptic story where the future in which the The story looks very bleak as most of the population dies from a deadly virus, so an organization recruits young people who are being used as an experiment to find a cure for dichroic virus.
It is also important to mention that for me reading has always been an activity which is difficult for me, since it requires being very meticulous, and on the contrary I tend to be a somewhat impatient or hyperactive person; However, I consider that I have been working on my concentration when reading and I consider that I do a regular job at the moment of rescuing the most important ideas of reading; For this I have put into practice some very valuable advice from my previous teachers such as constantly analyze the text I am reading, do not read in a hurry, look for words or concepts that you do not understand, have a series of main questions when reading such as "Who is the author? When was the piece published? What is the purpose? What is the main theme, to whom is it directed, etc." These questions allow me to have the essentials of the works and this is how I can better compile the main ideas.

1. My relationship with reading right now is not bad. I usually enjoy reading on my own, however, during the school year, it's hard for me to find enough time or motivation to start a book. I really enjoy mystery novels. When I don't have much on my plate, I can usually spend hours at a time reading them because I need to know what happens. Overall there are positive connotations when I am able to choose what I am reading. If I have to read something for an assignment though, I have more negative associations usually because the material doesn't interest me as much. In these cases, I have to read some paragraphs multiple times because I don't absorb the information as easily. One tool I've tried to apply when reading is that I have to go into it with the goal of learning the information, as opposed to just reading it because I have to for an assignment in class.
2. My relationship with writing isn't as good as it is with reading. There are more negative feelings towards it when I'm told I need to write something, I usually don't choose to sit down and do it for fun. Finding the right words to get my point across in papers is pretty challenging for me and I feel like completing it takes a lot longer than it should. English has never been my strong suit in school, and the only times I really write now are for my different classes. A tool I have that helps me write is Grammarly, it just fixes small mistakes. I usually re-read my papers anyways in order to catch my bigger mistakes.

1. Currently my relationship with reading is pretty good. I would say that reading is one of my main hobbies but despite this I do have both positive and negative associations. When it comes to reading things that I pick out, genres such as fantasy and romance, I enjoy it very much. I love going to bookstores and browsing through the different kinds of books they have. When I read a really good book, I could get lost in it for hours and would not be able to put it down until I finish it. But when it comes to reading academically I have very negative connotations. Throughout high school, we often read books that weren't very interesting to me. So, it was very difficult for me to actually enjoy any of them causing me to constantly lose focus when I did have to do the readings that were assigned.
2. Unfortunately, my relationship with writing at the moment is very negative. Writing and English in general is my worst subject. I always dreaded when my teachers in high school would tell us that we had a paper due or asked us to write any kind of reflection. There are many times where I would go to start an essay and would just stare at the blank Google Doc because I have no ideas at all, making me very frustrated. Since it was something I didn't enjoy, I would wait until the very last moment to finish an essay and the quality of my writing wouldn't be the best it could be. So far I only use one tool which is Grammarly because when I write, I usually write what is on my mind then reread it afterwards and it is really easy for me to make mistakes that I cannot catch so it is really helpful.

1. I'm not going to lie, but my relationship with reading has drastically decreased. As a child, I remember being so excited when my dad would tuck me and my sister into bed, and read us a bedtime story. He would even take me and my sister to Barnes and Nobles to pick out a book to read in the corner of the store, and if we were lucky, he would buy us a book each. However, as I approached middle school and high school, I became addicted to my phone and tablets. I donated most of my books, as I grew out of those childhood chapter books. Plus, in high school, I started having less free time, and I would just never pick up a book if it wasn't for my required english class. Reading to me, use to be fun, but now it seems like a chore just because I read for academics and never for my own entertainment.
2. Writing, however, has been like an escape for me, and I think I owe it all to my high school english teacher. He would always push the class to write whatever we wanted to write, and he would always have two grades; one for the content and one for the style. This way, I felt pushed to write what I wanted, and how I wanted. When I write, I write for myself. Though writing essays for class is always a bore, I like to take time to come up with analysis that I can relate to.

1. My relationship with reading now is positive because I have gotten into reading again and I read during most of my free time. However, I always go through different stages based on how my attention span is. Right now I am obsessed with reading, but I hated reading anything, even stuff that interested me, a year ago. That's another thing, I only love reading if it's a genre I like. If it isn't interesting to me, I won't read it. I read mostly romance because I love watching things like romcoms and I can easily imagine the things that are happening in the book. The tools that I use to read are to just find something that immediately catches my attention because I can't wait for the book to get good, it has to start out that way.
2. I enjoy writing because it gives me a lot of space to come up with ideas depending on the topic. I took two writing classes last quarter and I enjoyed the material for the most part. I have mostly positive associations, but I do occasionally think negatively of it because it gets exhausting trying to come up with ways to structure my essay and to make it make sense. I like writing argumentative essays because I feel as though I write better when I have something to argue against. The tools that I use are a template that helps me regulate what I want in the paper. I also try to write or get my main point done as soon as possible because that is often what I struggle with the most.

1. The relationship I have with reading can vary on what I would read. Reading things such as fantasy novels or comic books is something that is very fun for me. See the different types of genres incorporated such as action, comedy and fantasy is always amazing to me as it is like watching a movie in your head. Furthermore, reading these book allow me to understand the main character and see what challenges they go to and how it can be incorporated in real life. However, when reading a book assigned to me, it becomes less interesting and my relationship goes downhill. This is due to the fact I have my own interests and I would rather read a book that is exciting to me and ones I know more about.
2. The relationship I have with writing fluctuates between negative, neutral and positive. This is because my writing itself is not that good so for me to be interested is very difficult in writing things such as research papers and essays. This leads my writing to be negative at times as keeping interest within a subject I am neither good at nor gives me interest with the assignments presented. However, when writing a paper that does interest me such as topics I get to choose. My writing improves as I am more focused and interested on the topic at hand. This allows me to become more creative with my writing and express what I could accomplish with this. Tools I use for my writing are tools such as Grammarly, google docs and spell check. This allows me to correct the grammar, help me understand what went wrong with the writing and allows me make new ideas of what will be going on.

1. Reading is neither positive nor negative to me. I am neutral to reading. I do not have the inclination to read in my spare time, though its benefits would definitely help me. I only read when “assigned” to in school. When that comes, I read as told but that's about it. Most of my readings are basically “done and gone”. I forget about the reading almost immediately after the assignment is done. Assigned readings have no effect on me, they are viewed as merey assignments I must do for class, nothing more and nothing less. If ever asked about my favorite books or even genres, I have no answer. I used to enjoy reading mysteries and science fiction but that was back when I was in middle school. I have tried reading books on my devices but the feeling of “flipping” a page digitally is too different from a real piece of paper.

2. Writing is on the negative side for me. Writing on paper is further down the line than writing digitally. It takes time for me to read and understand prompts before I write and oftenly erase and rewrite my thoughts, leaving large eraser marks on my papers. Writing also takes up more time than reading so I feel as if I am “losing” time when comparing the two. Another big reason for my dislike towards writing is because it requires more “effort” and thought put into it. I have to use my brain and gather my thoughts then physically bring it out onto paper. I do not write in my spare time and never have the motivation to, even a free write makes me sigh.

My relationship with reading isn’t the best. I’m not the type of person to read for fun. Though I do believe we all read in our own way maybe not the way we expect but we still do. We read when we are viewing social media posts and their captions, scrolling through TikTok and reading comments, and many other ways. Reading a book for fun or in general is hard for me because if I don’t find it interesting I wander off into space. When my friend asks why I don’t read for fun I joke around and say “There's a one out of a hundred chance that the book will click”. As a way to say that it's hard for me to find a book that I find interesting. Throughout my entire K-12 education, there are approximately five books I found interesting.

On the other hand, writing and I have a “click from the start” relationship. I can write just about anything. Ask me to write an essay, poem, dialogue, etc. and I’ll do it with no problem. Though I prefer creative creating as it’s a way to release my creativity and helps convey certain emotions. You can create a dramatic, sad, in love, etc. scene through creative writing. In creative writing, I like to use literary devices as a way to exaggerate emotion. I consider myself a creative individual and like to say my creativity has no off switch. Since I’m constantly getting ideas from left to right. Despite finding writing easier I don’t do it for fun.

1.The relationship with reading? It depends. For the most part of time, it is positive. I love to read those books which I like to read. Like scientific fictions and Murakami Haruki’s books. I enjoy the feeling that makes me dedicate myself to thinking constantly. It is often suddenly realized in an instant, with many thoughts. I like to read one book one time if I can. Because that allows me to maximize the overall feeling of this work. But after reading one time. I will re-read this book again, to savor the use of words and the detailed description. However, I don’t like the book that school pointed to read, or some long long academic documents. I can accept them, and if necessary, I will try my best to get understanding of that. I use Grammly, but I don’t think that really helps. I also use Goodnote to make notes on book if I have a e-version.

2.I can write, but I don’t like to write too much. For the whole time I write, there are too much restrict and limitation for me. Like you must use some designated format of front and paragraphs. The school teacher taught a lot methods about writing. However, if I didn’t fit the standard, I will lose point from the work. Not only on the essay for daily works, but also for the TOEFL test and all the GAC test when I at high school. I used to write some small scientific stories. But for the most part I write essays. I use these tools to find information: statista.com for some statist information, it concludes many data I need when I at high school. And Grammarly to check the gramma (not too useful).

I think there should be more Humanistic care in our work and makes more thinking, and I hope I can do it.

1. I think my relationship with reading is not very good at the moment. Compared to electronic books, I prefer to read paper books, but in recent years I have rarely been able to read a book completely, Not only masterworks and academic articles, sometimes I can't even read the novels completely. I found that it is because I am not stay focus and patient enough when I was reading. Most of the time I just look at the text with my eyes instead of thinking about the content of the article. This also causes me to spend extra long time to reading. Therefore, I have not read a lot recently except for some requirement books. I am working on improve my reading skills right now, I will find some novels that I am interested in to read, so as to increase my interest in reading and increase my patience in reading.
2. I would say my relationship with writing right now is neutral, I am not disgusted with writing, but I also don't enjoy writing. I have some experience in writing academic articles, but I am not very good at it. I think there is a close connection between reading and writing, so my relationship with reading has also lead to some negative effects on my writing. For example, when I am writing, it always takes a long time to think about what kind of words to use to express my thoughts correctly. I think improving my reading can help a lot with my writing.

1. My relationship with reading is a love hate type of relationship because I do enjoy a good book, but it is a bit difficult for me to be able to finish a book. I would associate it with both negative and positive. Negative because I really dislike reading for classes, of course I do my best but its so boring. However, it is also something positive because I do have a couple of favorite books like "Dangerous" by Shannon Hill and another one but I honestly forgot the name of it. I like reading science fiction . I do not really use any tools to read, I wasn't really taught it.

2. My relationship with writing is good, I not particularly the best at writing, but when I do take my time and a couple of drafts I can write a semi good one. I like writing, but sometimes the topics can be challenging and I don't know how to start the prompt. I do realize that my writing is the best but I am not entirely sure how to improve and I really hope that this class will enlighten me in and help me relearn how to write because apparently the way high school teaches you is quite the opposite of what college professors expect from you.

I always had a good relationship with reading until high school since I needed to focus on my studies and grades. After graduation, I wanted to read more, so my current relationship with reading is quite amazing. For instance, last quarter I read four books which are The Golden Chariot, Honor, Persuasion, and To the Lighthouse. Since reading this number of books is time-consuming, I used audiobooks to minimize the time I spend on reading, and it was extremely helpful. During this quarter, I am planning to read the same number of books or even more, if possible, but with more variety of book types such as poetry and non-fiction. I usually prefer reading novels over other kinds of books because the events keep me engaged and entertained. In addition, I enjoy reading poetry, especially old-Arabic poetry such as The Seven Odes (Al Mu’allaqat) because they demonstrate the beauty of the Arabic language and the enormous number of words it has. Also, I read both printed books and digital books, and for the digital books, I use my laptop and phone to access them. Similar to my relationship with reading, I have had a fantastic relationship with it my entire life. I write when I am happy, sad, excited, and worried. However, I do not just write about my feelings, but I also use writing to express my opinions and perspectives through writing articles and short stories. When I was younger, I used to write on paper, but now I only use my phone and laptop to write because they make it easier for me to keep my writings.

1. I wouldn't say I have the best relationship with reading right now. I never really liked reading growing up and it always felt like it was something I was required to do rather than something I would do out of my own enjoyment. I remember going to the library to get books and being praised by my mom after looking at my book pile but in actuality, I didn’t touch a majority of the books when I got home. I wanted to be like the other kids my mom talked about so I lived up to her expectations…or so she thought. I would say I have a neutral association with reading but it sometimes definitely leans towards the negative end. I rarely find myself reading a book or any piece of reading at all unless it’s an assignment or a post online. I will say if a piece of text is interesting to me, I find myself invested so I don’t doubt that one day I will find myself reading a book again.

2. I can say that my relationship with writing right now is better than where it was throughout school but I’m still not completely confident with it. I actually find writing enjoyable at times but I’m not quite sure what triggers it, I assume I have to be in the right mindset when writing. I’d say I have a neutral relationship with writing. Depending on how writing is defined, I find myself writing quite a lot on the daily, whether it be in the form of text or emails. I would never see myself doing traditional or creative writing unless it was for an assignment for school. When writing something formal, I usually have to refer to another piece of writing or some of my old work for me to construct something I’m pleased with.

1. My relationship with reading has has it's up and downs, more importantly that my love for reading hasn't really diminished, but the time that reading takes is tedious. My favorite novels were dystopian genres, and it always made me think of what the world could be in the future. The fact is that in high school my reading mindset was to associate it with assignments, which puts negative connotations on it instead of good ones. My mom would often read Stephen King novels to feel terror and I never understood why that would is a good thing but then I realized that that's because reading frees the mind. The emotions that come out of reading is different than those that come off your phone, thus making it more interesting when I read genres and ideologies that I like and care about.
2. When thinking about writing I feel I often get mental blocks and think that it has to sound a particular way to please my teacher. When writing just from my mind, I hope to be able to express myself without those mental blocks. When I'm writing about a topic i strongly care about, my writing actually hold some emphasis to it. This could be a bad thing in argumentative essays because it's too opinionated, but it's also good in the sense of my opinion when leaning to persuasive work. My writing also takes time to make sure it's genuine, but the rushed process about essay format and schedules like "rough draft" and "peer review" throws off your writing mind and overcomplicates the process when often the answer is just to put the pen down and write.

1. My relationship with reading right now is neutral. I have had both positive and negative associations with reading. Back when I was in elementary school and leading up until around 6th grade, I was a big bookworm. I would always have my head stuck in a fiction/fantasy book, reading a few books per week. Although I stopped reading soon after I started sixth grade, the genres I read back then are definitely still my favorite today. However, more nonfiction books about wars do interest me. I have my highschool English classes to thank for that. Oftentimes my classes would involve learning about wartimes through literature. I even took a whole class based on learning about wars through literature. My negative experiences involve anything that has to do with Shakespeare (sorry Shakespeare lovers :/). This is mainly because I have a hard time understanding what they are saying for one, but also analyzing the characters and plot if I need to. The language is too fancy for me sometimes and even if there is action within the plot it just doesn’t pique my interest too much.

2. My relationship with writing is also pretty neutral, but leaning towards the negative side. Throughout my highschool English classes I have had the freedom to write about anything I wanted to, exploring writing techniques like vivid imagery or argumentative. This allowed me to not have to worry about the constraints of standard writing, and I could focus more on just getting my idea or subject across to my audience. My negative experiences with writing have come from essays about books I wasn’t really interested in, or didn’t understand well. Also, I am not good at formal writing and tend to struggle while writing comparative essays or finding an abstract idea within a plot. Sometimes I have a hard time even coming up with a thesis to argue against an idea. I have a much easier time with free writing, especially about topics that resonate well with me, like imagery.

1. My relationship with reading is not the best right now. I usually never have the time to read because I am so busy with athletics and school work. To be honest, sometimes I won't even read the assigned reading for school. When I used to read, it would require a very interesting novel to get me through the book. If something just didn't spark an interest in my mind, I would stop reading. However, whenever I got into a good, interesting book, I would stay up super late to try and finish the story. Those were the types of books I liked the most. The ones where I would ignore everything else going on in the world, just to finish this chapter. I usually won't use any tools when reading, which is probably why I never got into it. I don't typically enjoy audio books because I feel it is better to read it myself and imagine the story in my head.
2. My relationship with writing is negative right now. I never really enjoyed writing because of the bad grades I got on my assignments in high school. Writing is something that never came naturally to me. I always preferred crunching numbers in math class. Back in high school, I would write essays, emails to college coaches for recruiting, emails to sponsors. It was all very formal. I usually just follow the tools I was used to in high school. These included things like "do not use first person when writing" or "make sure you have the same tense in the whole essay, don't switch from past tense to present tense".

1. The relationship between me and reading is not very good. In my childhood, I would be willing to go to school because there was no mobile TV and so on. When I was a child, sitting on the windowsill and reading a book calmed me down and made me quiet. But now I can watch Douyin, watch TV series, watch movies, and ignore reading books. I tried to read a few days ago and found it difficult for me to read a long passage, and I was very anxious to get the ending. I seem to have lost the ability to read philosophy and some knowledge books. Only when I am reading some novels can I continue to read. I like to read science fiction and detective novels because I am very interested in physics and solving crimes. I am trying to adjust myself and force myself to read for half an hour every day. I am using Amazon's kindle, but in fact I still prefer paper books.
2. My relationship with writing is even worse. I never try to write, nor do I try to write diaries and so on. My language skills seem to have not been very good, and I am not good at expressing my emotions through language. When writing things, I always say some repetitive words, and I can't find very suitable words to express my feelings. So even if I have some feelings in life, I will not write him out. If I want to write it out, I tend to use word documents.

1. I have a generally positive association with reading. I read a lot in elementary school, and read a book over this past winter break to keep me entertained. I have to admit, though, that I had not read a book in a while prior to this winter break. For what it's worth, I read a lot of blog articles and news daily, so I haven't completely been abstinent.

2. My current relationship with writing is downright horrendous. I see it as a chore, mostly because I did a lot of it in my eight, ninth, and tenth grade years, which burnt me out for a while. I credit this with my deteriorating writing skills and lack of ability to write anything that's not a 5-paragraph essay. It's also why I got a poor grade in my AP Literature class, as I was unable to produce the writing necessary to maintain a proper grade. Outside of writing essays for school and the occasional email, I don't do much of it. To write, I mainly use google Docs, since that is what assignments have shifted to instead of paper.
