On the first day students could virtually check out books from the library, all three of my A Day kids’ eyes lit up as they started searching for the books they wanted.
When Mrs. Miner delivered the books they had checked out to my class a little while later, they all jumped for joy; one student started hugging his book, another student yelped in excitement. It was the most adorable thing to see.
-Titus

We used the 5 finger retell in reverse to write scary stories. Not only was I proud that they showed their understanding of the five finger retell, I had 5 students CHOOSE to stay in for their break to keep writing their stories for FUN!! 😭 added bonus of library excitement, kids sneaking on to scholastic to read during class, the Jason Reynolds announcement, and kids interested in writing for the poetry contest -Sutherland

Using new tech for reading

I’m only seeing my students on zoom which has presented a lot of challenges. I’ve been able to utilize Nearpod and Jamboard to see my students coding as they read. A huge portion of our MTA program involved coding vowel and syllable types. My students think it’s so fun using the tech and I’m seeing a huge amount of growth in their reading.
