Using our class notes on advertising for this assignment. Think of an advertisement that you have seen on youtube, online, in a magazine, on TV, etc. Analyze the advertisement and identify the demographic for the advertisement, the selling tactic used for the advertisement. Be sure to justify how you know that selling tactic was used and how you know what the demographic is.

Finally, make sure you link the advertisement to your padlet post!

I first saw this advertisement for Rocket Mortgage during the 2018 Super Bowl. The selling tactics that they use in this commercial is humor and celebrity endorsement. I know they use celebrity endorsement because Keegan Michael Key is a famous comedian and he has a prominent role in the commercial. They also have Big Sean in the commercial and he is a famous rapper.

They also use humor as a selling tactic because the commercial flashes through a series of funny situations where the people don't really know what is going on, and then Key pops up and explains everything in “everyday/understandable” language. One example of humor is when a teenage boy is singing a Big Sean song and it goes...

“Last night I took an L, but tonight I bounced back”

And the father in the commercial clearly doesn’t understand and asks what an L is. Key pops up and explains that the singer took a loss, but he is ok now. I think this is humorous because my parents frequently don't understand popular music and will ask me to explain lyrics to them.

The demographic for this advertisement is people who are looking to get a mortgage, people looking to buy a house, but maybe also people who are intimidated by the housing system and all of the confusing paperwork, terms, and fees that are associated with the process. Rocket mortgage is connecting the easily understandable language that Key uses in the humorous situations to their easy to use phone app that makes mortgages easy to understand and no longer scary for the consumer.
