When looking at multiple promoted hair and nail vitamins or supplements (i.e. Sugar Hair Bear, Halo Beauty) I found that there were minimal standards for regulating research. For instance, often the research into these supplement brands are funded or performed by the brands themselves who expect profit. Additionally, these ingredients seems that they at best have temporary and/or minimal results, and there aren't many clinical trials with participants to support these claims of improving hair or nail growth. These supplements seem similar to the diet pill/weight loss programs in that they use narrative or emotional appeal.

A few years ago, my aunt decided to try Herbalife as a way to lose weight. Herbalife tends to say its a successful program if you take their products, but in their advertisements it doesn't include as to how it'll happen. For example, it doesn't mention that exercise is needed and a good and healthy diet. My aunt would use their products, but her eating habits remained the same along with a lack of exercise because from what she received from the advertisement was that she just needed to take the products and "miraculously" lose weight. Along with their advertisement using photos of their "clients" weight loss journey.

One of the things I commonly used to see on the market were these weight-loss supplement pills that claimed to contain the plant, Garcinia Cambogia. Many of these supplements claimed that big name celebrities used these supplements to lose massive amounts of weight. One person they claimed to lose about 70 pounds was, Christina Aguilera. Of course, she's absolutely gorgeous and who wouldn't want to be skinny like her? Now I know, this was an appeal to emotion and who even knows if she even really used this product? In conclusion, I tried it and it didn't work.

Essential Oils

Everyone claims on their sites that aromatherapy helps psychological and physical well-being. Many plants by themselves are harmful if inhaled, but because they combined it with an oil it is considered safe. They add many different aromas to help sway feelings. Example: Lavender is for calming. Chamomile is for sleeping. But smelling essential oils can cause irritation of the nostrils, throat, give headaches, hallucinations, seizures, and allergic reactions. Essential oils might work for just the smell, but candles seem safer to me.

I tried out crystal healing for things like anxiety and panic attacks. I wore a specific crystal around my neck that someone at the store told me that it was suppose to help. At first I felt confident in its effects but then I realized I was still having the same amount of anxiety and panic attacks so I went back to the store and told the worker it didn't work and he said that I didn't purify it correctly and I had to do that for it to work and then when that didn't work he said I needed to use a different type of stone, and the list of reasons went on. I eventually gave up. I was told that it worked for others using emotional appeals as a strategy even though there wasn't any actual peer review.

I've been tricked by Emergen C but not necessarily the company or brand themselves, I took my brothers remarks and his experience with it and just assumed that I'd have the same outcome and I was obviously wrong and after listening to the videos it did absolutely nothing to relieve me of whatever illness I was experiencing at the time..almost like a Placebo effect, I was told that drinking this would cure me of my cold. I drank it and thought "oh wow this works" when in reality it did absolutely nothing at all.

I have extremely sensitive skin, but as of recently it has been beginning to clear up. However, back in middle school I used proactive regularly due to the ads of it being really effective on skin. It never worked on my skin though, and it barely worked on my moms'. The ads I saw on television and on stands in the mall really made it seem like it was some kind of overnight miracle worker.

A year ago, a friend and I set out on our journey to lose weight. My friend, also a roommate of mine, decided to involve this FitTea tend that she was curious about. This FitTea was a 14 days detox intake; the tea claimed to cleanse your digestive system, decrease water retention while reducing bloating. Basically help you stay fit, energized, healthy and also claims to make you happy. In my opinion how do you measure happiness. This tea has been publicly sponsored by so many celebrities idols such as: the Kardashian’s, Kylie Jenner, Vanessa Hudgens etc… You would think since it's been advertised by so many idols; that it would include the steps how the product is used, and what is expected when using the product. In conclusion, my roommate explained her 14 day journey and expressed it was the most inconvenient experience she took upon herself. She stated that the amount of time that she uses the restroom was beyond unconventional.
