I chose Savanna to represent the East Africa Zone because the Savanna, or tropical grassland with scattered trees, lies south of the steppe and extends east to west across the subregion. Rainfall is seasonal here, with alternating wet and dry seasons. Vegetation varies depending on rainfall. Trees are the main feature of the savanna in the greater rain and mild dry seasons, while tall grasses cover areas that are drier. In general, the soil is not very fertile.

I chose Africa’s Population is Increasing Rapidly to represent the West Africa Zone because the most people in West Africa live along the coast and river plains, with about half living in crowded urban cities. Nigeria has the largest population of any country in Africa. In 2012, about 170 million people lived in Nigeria. In fact, Nigeria’s population is greater than the rest of West Africa’s population combined. Many people in West Africa are moving to the cities. The countries are struggling to provide resources, including electricity, water and transportation, for the large number of people. Education in West Africa is inconsistent, and the literacy rates are some of the lowest in the world.
