What is the Black Plague, when did it happen? Who did it kill?

The Great Plague was the last major outbreak of the bubonic plague which occurred in London during the years 1665-1666. A fifth of the population was affected by this, and sadly passed away. The bacteria that caused this horrible disease was Yersninia pestis. This strain of bacteria was spread from infected rat and flea bites. This was the last time that Britain had been attacked by the Great Plague. I bet you could be wondering how was the Great Plague cured? Was it the same as the Black Death? What ended it? Did they know the cause?

What are the similarities between the Plague and Death?

There aren't that many differences between the Black Death and the Black Plague, but one of the major differences is that the Black Death caused numbness in the tips of toes and fingers. Some people say that they are completely different and others say they are variants of the exact same disease, or even derive from the same reason. Many people think different things, but people really don't know. People all have mixed opinions on whether they're the same, even if they have any similarities or differences. It's still a mystery.

What were the supposed cures for the Great Plague?

Nobody had really known what caused the plague in that era, most of the cures were based around superstition, and not actually scientific knowledge. However, the College of Physicians said it was spread via the air, so people who collected the dead bodies often smoked tobacco to combat their chance of getting the disease. Some of the more ridiculous cures consist of: putting Money in vinegar to clean it before handing it to shop owners, or even butchers selling the meat joints not by hand, but by a joint handed by a hook. This was for precaution reasons.

Why did they not find out what caused the Great Plague?

People couldn't find out what the cause of the Great Plague at the time was because they didn't have the scientific knowledge, or any knowledge. They thought it was the air at first, and that's why people would smoke tobacco as a cure. People were familiar about a type of disease similar to this, but the Black Death wasn't around during the life times of the people who witnessed these horrible deaths. The Black Death was written about, but nobody really experienced it first hand. So people were unsure on what it was. People were confused, nobody knew what to believe.

What happened to the Black Plague after the Great Fire of London?

After the Great Fire of London occurred, miraculously the Black Plague was never seen again, this was because the fire had destroyed all of the bad bacteria, and the rats and the fleas that carried it. Many people think a bad thing happens for a good thing, and this was a very good example of that belief. A sad 6 lives were taken to save possibly millions more. Although, in my opinion nobody should of died. The Great Fire of London was the last thing the Great Plague ever saw. Although the people who had the disease at the time weren't cured by the fire, it still prevented it from spreading.
