The Amazon River is home to many people in the amazon basin region. The Amazon River is approximately home to 10 million people, which is only 3.87% of south America. The population of the amazon river is quite sustainable as the Amazon River basins do not have much western medicine and are more like small tribes instead of towns. The Amazon River is also a very big part for it's people as the River has a very big social aspect for them as that is the main resource to get around places or to other tribes.

The Amazon River is mainly used for water, food, travel and scientific discovery. The Amazon River has many canals that lead to other major river systems, the graph below shows all the dams and canals off of the Amazon River which people mainly visit. The Amazon River makes up to about 219,000 gallons of water per second. Nearly the whole world would rely on the Amazon River as the amazon supplies most of the world’s fresh water.
Environmental Issue

The Environmental issues in the Amazon River are Pollution and dredging. Dredging happens a lot in the Amazon River so that big cargo ships and tourist cruises can get through the River without the bottom being taken off, when dredging this means that they constantly take the dirt from the bottom of the River and make the River deeper, this can cause dirt and poor soil from the bottom of the lake to effect the river and can also kill the life inside the River. Rubbish pollution happens quite a lot in the Amazon River as well as a lot of people take boats filled with rubbish and dump it in the River. The solution to help the River is that they are not trying to dig so much from the Amazon Rivers base of River as it is deep enough for cargo ships to get through but when these cargo ships are going through the Amazon this starts to cause oil pollution.

In this picture it shows how much dirt they have been burring from the dirt underneath the river, this is the result of dredging in the Amazon river.
