You can start practising anytime, even in summer!

You sit or stand in a circle. You need to listen carefully! The first player holds the ball of wool and makes a sentence : My favourite… is … / I like … better than … . Then the first player throws the ball of wool to someone else but holds the thread.  It goes on and should make a nice spiderweb. The last player throws the ball back to the second last player and repeats his or her sentence.  Thus you wind up the ball of wool and the spider web is unravelled.

 It's Christmas Eve and Santa is busy getting gussied up for the big night. But when he goes to put on his warm, cozy Christmas underwear, they're nowhere to be found! With undies for every occassion, he tries on the rest of his collection. But nothing is quite right. Just when he's about to give up he finds a surprise from his considerate team of reindeer. Ho, ho, ho, Merry Christmas!

Create and present a perfect underwear for Santa Claus!

Invite the students to join in with you saying the repeated phrases I want to fly, The frog is flying and Frogs don’t fly.

Ask the students to mirror you. Tell them that they will perform the story together, chunk by chunk (phrase by phrase). You perform the first chunk alone and then the students repeat the chunk together with you, mirroring you as closely as they can: the same postures, the same mimes, the same facial expressions, the same feeling, the same voices, the same language. Continue in this way, telling the story chunk by chunk. It’s important to keep the momentum up throughout the story, so avoid repeating any chunk more than once – otherwise the energy could easily fade.

Ask the students to mirror you again, but this time, they are going to tell the story together with you from start to finish. Again, you need to keep up the momentum. The students will be ‘shadowing’ you most of the time – in other words, they’ll be a split second behind you, except during the repeated phrases they are more confident with.

Ask the students to face each other in pairs. This time, they are going to tell the story mirroring their partner, without your help. Remind them to keep their mimes and voices strong. You can support any pair who are struggling by joining in for a few moments.
