The paper explains my personal leadership vision and my two leadership goals I will also explain the action plan to achieve each goal. This paper also includes a snapshot of two action items for each goal. My leadership vision has several anticipated outcomes/benefits for me and for others. When I reach my goals, I can improve myself as well as influence my team. My first goal is to develop self-management. Secondly, as a follower I need to improve my joining behaviour and stop judging behaviours.

Self-Management (First Goal)

I realized that I’m not leadership material as I have many weaknesses. I also noticed that I should convert my weaknesses to strengths before I could start working in the hospitality industry. One of my weaknesses that I really want to change is my concentration. When I get stressed out, I cannot focus on important things. I can be narrow-minded too. Thus, I need to control my emotions by developing self-management, which is one of my goals. I believe that people who can put up a smiling face all the time are the strongest in the hospitality industry. To control emotions is a very hard thing to do. One of my goals is to develop my self-management. I think if you can not care about yourself then you cannot care for other people.

Managing your stress (Emotional Self-Control) (One)

To be a good leader, I must be able to control my emotions. I learned that stress management can improve you as a person. Keeping stress in our minds is not a permanent solution. One day, everything will come out and cause relationships to break. Hence, it is important to solve stress related issues regularly. One way to solve it is by spending time for yourself. Every person is different. The hobbies and interests are different too. Thus, engaging in the things we love is a good way to forget stress. According to Daft and Lane (2018), "It is never too late for people to learn how to manage their emotions and impulses" (p.151). There is no fixed age or time. Its all about the person. If I feel comfortable, I can spend time with others. It is good for team building too.

Emotional Banking (Adaptability) (Two)

During the class, I learned that the emotional banking will save your life. If you have plenty of emotional banking, you will have lots of connections who will help you during tough moments (C.R. Munro, personal communication, 2019). The more you give, the more you get. Therefore, I will continue to help others to make them happy so that they have a smile on their face all the time. It is a win-win situation for me and others. I will also encourage myself to make a better environment for my team so that my teammates could feel comfortable at the workplace.

Open and direct communication is the essence of any successful team. If all the members of the team are open minded and engaging, there wouldn’t be interpersonal conflicts in the team. According to Hassell (n.d.), "Management must be clear in openly stating the objectives of the company, both overall and at the departmental level" (para. 5). I believe that by being open and encouraging my team members to have straightforward communication, the joining behaviour can be improved. This would eventually make teamwork a very happy experience for everyone.

Sometimes we often look at the person and take decisions. It is personal bias. This is not the right approach to be an efficient follower. We should be looking at the issue and find solutions. By careful analysis and broader perspective, we get a cleared view of the problems. It would help in making the right decisions. According to Daft and Lane (2018), “Each follower is a part of the leader’s larger system and should realize that his or her actions affect the whole”(p. 200). Everyone is responsible for his actions and through collaborations, we can achieve great results.

During the course, I spent a lot of time thinking about the styles of leaderships I have. However, I realized that it is not what I have but it is what I want to become. I would like to be a great leader as well as a follower. Thus, the first step to achieve that is by developing self-management because if you cannot care about yourself, you cannot care others. Stress management and emotional banking will definitely support me towards my goal. To improve joining behaviour, I should be focusing on the issues and have open communication with everyone. This would help me a good follower.
