         <title>Project 1: Egg-citing levitation</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><sup>Materials:</sup></strong></div><ul><li><sup>bowl</sup></li><li><sup>water</sup></li><li><sup>egg</sup></li><li><sup>salt</sup></li><li><sup>spoon</sup></li><li><sup>measuring cup and spoon</sup></li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong><sup>Procedures: </sup></strong><sup><br>- Fill a bowl with enough water to cover an egg. Place the egg in the water. Does the egg float or sink? The egg sinks because it is denser than the water. <br>- Now add salt to the water, and stir gently, being careful not to break the egg.&nbsp; Keep adding salt until the egg floats. You will need about 4 tablespoons of salt for every 1½ cups of water.<br>- Did the salt change the water's density? The liquids inside an egg are denser than water, so the egg usually sinks into water. <br>- Adding salt to water makes the water denser. When enough salt is added, the egg will be less dense than the water. The egg will rise.
