One of the most important things that a person needs to learn when it comes to ballroom dancing is to unlearn a bad habit. Everybody is used to making some bad habits that should be broken first. Here are some of the common mistakes that you definitely need to avoid to while learning ballroom dance.

Looking Down

A lot of beginners in ballroom dancing lesson tend to look down at their feet, which makes them all the more nervous than they already are. They unconsciously do this when they are afraid to step on their partner and unsure of where they should move. Looking down at your foot is surely a difficult habit to break. It not only affects your posture but also causes your shoulders to hunch forward and makes the dance frame appear awkward.

It is through the first dance at your wedding that you can use your body to express your emotions to your partner. What you should do is try and feel where your partner is about to move, in order to determine where you should place your foot. You should never let your gaze to fall to the floor, which is surely going to ruin the entire performance.

If you want to practice looking up, try to focus on something that is placed high up in the room, such as a window, clock, or your partner’s lovely smile! Your dance is going to improve and get a lot smoother when you attention is on your partner rather than on the floor.

Weak Elbows

One of the most important things to keep in mind while you are dancing is to maintain the dance frame. This is a very essential factor of ballroom dancing. It is because of the frame and the right posture that the leader and follower are able to maintain balance on the dance floor. It is therefore very important for both the partners to maintain strength in their backs and arms.

In case the dancers are unable to hold their position, the lines of communication will be broken and you will not be able to communicate smoothly with your partner. You can fix this problem by standing up straight, facing a wall. Lift your arms towards the front of you, and lean forward a little after you place your palms on the wall. See this as if you are doing push-ups. Slowly shift your weight towards the wall, to feel the pressure on your back. This exercise is going to help you develop strength and posture.

Rock your bridal dance lessons with these tips in mind. Go for them and make your first couple dance memorable forever.
