123 Brookside, Taft Avenue, Manila by John Brylle Ubay

The alarm clock rings at 6:30 am, but in the world of a high school senior, it's an enemy, not a friend. So, more often than not, I'd find myself in a race against the clock, desperately trying to get ready for my 7 am class. But in a town where the wheels of public transportation are busy turning, I had to rely on my own two feet to get me to school. As I reluctantly left the comfort of my home, a realization began to take shape – there were no shortcuts to success, only long walks to school. That's when I stumbled upon my little secret, my "escape route" in the heart of the city – Brookside. It was more than just a name; it was a sanctuary, an oasis of tranquility hidden amidst the urban chaos. Fast forward to my college years, and that's when it hit me. 123 Brookside, Taft Avenue, Manila, wasn't just an address; it was the starting point of my journey to self-discovery and better organization. It's where I learned that sometimes, when life gets hard and the weight of the world feels overwhelming, you need a brook – a stream of clarity and serenity – to guide you. So, welcome to 123 Brookside. Here, we're embarking on a ride through the twists and turns of life, not in a hurry to reach the destination but savoring the journey, learning to navigate the challenges, and discovering the beauty in the detours. It's more than just an address; it's where the waters of resilience flow, where dreams are nurtured, and where you learn that even in the most chaotic of moments, there's a serene brookside waiting for you.

In my mother's tranquil hometown, a tapestry of cherished memories unfolds. The love for my grandparents draws me there, though my dear grandpa has bid farewell. Amidst the fragrant whispers of nostalgia, I yearn for my lola's embrace, her presence forever missed. It's a place where time slows down, and with cousins as companions, laughter and joy ripple through each day. There, we partake in hearty feasts that tantalize the taste buds, and the burdens of the world seem lighter. Life, it seems, finds its gentle rhythm in the embrace of my mother's hometown, where the heart finds solace.

Amidst the towering structures of Manila, I found both fear and opportunity. Studying at DLSU Manila, pursuing AB Economics and BS Accountancy, it's a journey of mixed emotions. The bustling cityscape was daunting, but the promise of a brighter future pulled me in. Surrounded by newfound friends, I discovered a sense of belonging. And as the sun sets, Manila's vibrant nightlife comes to life, offering a colorful tapestry of experiences. In this city of contrasts, I'm determined to make the most of every opportunity, weaving my story into the intricate fabric of Manila's vibrant culture.

Hello John !

WOW your padlet is creative ! It's nice following your journey through a map !

I can see that you moved a lot ! Did you already lived away from home in highschool then ? And now even further!
You seem to be a very explorous type of person, but having still a strong bond to your roots ! I admire that!

What is your favorite "night out" in Manilla ? I am curious about what you guys do for fun ;))
In France it really depends on the geographic area, my sister is studying in the south in a coastal town, she goes to the beach at night and listen to music with her friends... I would looove to do that too, but sadly Beauvais is the opposite of a lively coastal city ! We barely go in town and rather go to parties on campus or in Paris ;))

I bet you still have plenty to say about yourself, let's discuss all that together soon!

Hi there !!

First of all I must admit your Padlet looks amazing ! It's a super original way of showing us who you are ! And it also allows me to discover the Philippines in a way (from far far away).

I noticed you're studying far away from your hometown, do you still manage to visit your family from time to time ? And also, how are you liking college student life, away from anything you are used to, tasting the independent adult life ?

You seem to love the coast and the soothing atmosphere that the tide and waves create, I wonder how different your beaches are from European ones ?
I think the beach is a beautiful place to recharge some batteries but I think I'm more receptive to the vast, daunting mountain atmosphere. I find myself surrounded by million(s) years old natural monument and reflect on how small I am compared to it. And if I am this small compared to a mountain, how small am I compared to the planet, to the universe. How imortant can my problems be.
Maybe, if you are interested I can show you some pictures of the Mont Blanc (it's the hisghest mountain in Europe). Perhaps you'll be able to grasp a small part of what it makes me feel ;)
