I began these birds as silhouettes in preparation for a larger piece. I was inspired by the relationship between the saturation of colors in the sky and the diffusing quality of clouds. I decided to use an unexpected cool color scheme for the sky to enhance the dreamy qualities of the wet watercolor technique. I find paper cutting to be a challenge but I worked outdoors to find a more peaceful environment to concentrate. I still wonder if adding pen detail would enhance or distract from the artwork. Moths symbolize a large transformation, and the hand reaching out represents me trying to grasp this concept. I don't typically use bold colors like gold but I do enjoy working with pen and line work. I created this picture while watching my fish, Gary, swim around his tank. I felt inspired by his flowy fins and got an ocean sense from the watercolor background, so I wanted to create something fishy on this page. I decided to paint my home here in Illinois. The reason why i wanted to paint my house is because my family and I are moving in November so I wanted to draw the place that I grew up in. The sketch is the back of my house while the water color is the front of my house. The one thing that I wish I had done was capture the entire front of the house instead of just a zoomed in part of it. I prepped this page by using a circle template and markers to draw various sizes of overlapping yellow and pink circles. Looking back at the page, it reminded me of planets and space, so that inspired me to create a fun space scene. I sketched out an astronaut and a space station with pencil, then I colored them in with Prismacolor colored pencils. From there, I lined the contours with pen and added details to the background planets with colored pencil. My inspiration for this piece was a fully blind face drawing on Instagram. I wanted to make something that was all connected, and also added some color. I enjoy how I showed freckles while having them all be connected like little constellations. I took a photo last year at the Japanese Gardens that felt magical. It reminded me of a fairy garden, and I wanted to emphasize that with a non-local color scheme. Red seemed to be calling me, so I started there. This piece is a colored pencil drawing of a Pianoa spider that was inspired by the "draw your fears" prompt. I'm terrified of spiders, but drawing this helped broaden my inspiration and prompt horizons. I used a pen instead of a normal pencil to force myself to not worry about mistakes and get used to not erasing so much and beacuse how it would look with the paint. Green pen and colored pencils

To kick off this piece, I traced different sized triangles with two different shades of green colored prismacolor pencils. I chose greens because I was inspired by nature and how Wicca focuses on the connection (to nature) and your love for it. I followed the prompt of drawing an OC and I drew my OC in green pen. The theme of the piece is witches and Wicca; recently I have been diving into the world of Wicca and Paganism. I originally started this painting with the intention to do something more related to Rapunzel as the yellow river in the middle reminded me of her hair in the stories. In the end, I decided that I wouldn't go that route as the ideas that I had were too much like the Disney movie for me. In the end I decided to go with candle lit lamps as the yellow in the painting looked like a river of light. I didn't want to try an complicate the piece too much after that as it would become confusing rather than unified, so I decided to play with different line weights to show shading. I was firstly inspired by seeing Mrs. Corapi's colored pencil jewelry example, so I wanted to do something fun and colorful. Since I had only an hour I wanted to do a monochromatic turtle to not focus too much on making the colors too realistic and perfect. Personally as an artist I really tend to focus on every single detail to make it look as best as possible with only an hour, but without really looking at perfection. I used watercolors to prep the page. I got the idea to do flowers because it is something I do not draw very often. Drawing the flowers over and over made me feel more comfortable drawing them. This page wasn't meant to be perfect. WHAT? Redesign of album cover, as stated above. I looked up some Paraguayan mythology (because  the title translates to "Dreaming of Paraguay")  and I found some pretty interesting spirits to add to my artwork.
This cover has a dark meaning.
MEANING FOR ME: I really enjoyed drawing this. The song means a lot to me because it has given me a lot inspiration of past projects. I think that by doing this sketchbook prep, I've kind of given back to it.
This was the first time I gave the exact-o knife a go. I've never actually done  something like this. This project definitely helped me come out of my comfort zone.
Something I would improve? The amount of time I spent on the background. Yes, the messiness gives it an almost blur affect from far away, but that wasn't what I was going for. I think I should've added more things - probably leaves, clouds, and other plan life to the forefront. When I was younger, I always had a thing for marbles, my grandma would always let me pick out a few of hers that she stored in a vase. Something about how they're created and how they could come in varying sizes and shapes inspired me to do this piece. I was able to find a piece of grey sketchbook paper, so I scribbled a continuous line and then set up my piece. I used soft pastels to color in the base and then went in with darker pastels and colored pencils to create shadows and highlights.
