I was surprised that CRT has more to do with the brain than culture...or at least that was my take away.

On the strategies: Gamify...make it social...storify...
This doesn't excite me. I get the point and I'm willing to try, but vocabulary lists are not a huge part of my curriculum. How do you gamify a book? Also, my students this year are NOT enthusiastic about talking to one another, so how do you make it social? Finally, they're reading stories...so, now they have to create them on their own?

I am teaching a math modeling course for the first year this year and one of the first projects was for students to plan a road trip. The math part of the project involved calculating lodging, food, and transportation expenses. But the inherent cultural responsiveness in the project was the choices the students made in planning their trips: who they invited on the trip, the places they chose to travel, the lodging and food choices they made, and the modes of transportation they chose. I really feel that because this involved their choices and providing a narrative of sorts, it enhanced the math aspect of the project by making it so much more relevant to each student. John Pappas
