Time, patience, and attention are some necessities needed to thrive. This is a time of growth and questioning.

In Third Grade: Independence is forming even more. They are bound to make mistakes and eventually learn from them. Their friends and social life have became very important. Social skills and expectations are some of the larger developments they make at this time.

Due to the developmental differences above instruction will need to be adaptable to fit both grades. For a kindergartener maybe the lesson should be hands on to work on the newly acquired motor control. The instruction simply builds on personal experience rather than phenomena in other places. This a more hands on activity based lesson.

Third Grade: Students can now understand that the world around them is vast and will be different from their local area. So this lesson will take the skills they learned from their personal experiences and apply them to phenomena from other places. So the instruction grows to learning about geography and climate of different regions, also this will include how different storms function. Then we start the discussion of protection and precautions. Students will have a previous understanding of weather patterns which set the foundation for an in depth lesson.
