Knowledge as Power

Prospero's understanding of knowledge and debt allows him to control the island and its inhabitants. Additionally the sailors were able to get power over the royals in a sense at they understood the storm more than them.

The Fragility of Power

This play shows how power only relies on knowledge and manipulation. Prospero doesn't have as much magic power as Ariel does but through manipulation and knowledge, he was able to take advantage and be more powerful overall. We see this when he says "My dingle all my dingle!" (1.2) Showing how he has control over power.

Power: Miranda has control over most men; as seen when Ferdinand states "[This log] would be heavy to me as odious, but . . . my sweet mistress [makes] it enjoyable." (Shakespeare 3.3, 5-7) Showing how Miranda can influence some men but only when they are attracted to her looks. Miranda's power wouldn't work for everyone as it's based off of how quick some may fall in love.

Knowledge: Caliban tells his new master, "Be not afraid. The isle is full of voices" (Shakespeare 3.2, 275-271). Caliban's quote shows how some of his knowledge can help him, but only under certain conditions. His knowledge enables him to be unaffected by the singing as he knows a little about the island.
