My little brother watches these two little girls on YouTube. I remembered him showing me this one not too long ago and thought it would be funny! Especially since we all know love potions make people fall in love, just like the story "The Chaser."

#2 Cisneros' "Eleven"

Rachel is a student in Mrs. Price's math class. In the short story, Rachel can not express herself because she believes that being 11 years old does not do the job. Mrs. Price asks the class about a sweater, and then proceeds by giving it to Rachel although it is not hers. Rachel feels as though she is too young to tell Mrs. Price that the sweater is not hers, so she wishes that she is one hundred and two so that she would have the courage to tell her teacher that the hideous sweater did not belong to her. Just like the story, we all wish we could be a different age at times in certain situations.

#3 Updike's "A&P"

Sammy is a cashier at A&P, when one day 3 girls come into the store in bikinis. The manager, Lengel, is rude to the girls telling them they need to come in the store dressed next time. Sammy wants to be a "hero" to the girls, so he tells Lengel he quits for embarrasing the girls. Once he goes to look for them, they're already gone and he regrets his decision afterwards. This story automatically took me to the song "Girls Girls Girls" by Motley Crue.

#4 Chopin's "Desiree's Baby"

Desiree and Armand marry and have a child. They notice that the child is changing color as it gets older.Desiree believes the genes are passing from her, so she takes the baby and drowns herself and the baby in the bayou, all while Armand reads a letter from his mother to his father saying that she was a black slave.

#7 Erdrich's "The Red Convertible."

Brothers Henry and Lyman go out one day, and end up purchasing a car. They go everywhere in this car. When they return, Henry is sent off to War. When he returns, he is very much changed from the experiences he saw and went through. In the end of the story Henry ends up dying by drowning in the river. I attached a picture of someones brain with PTSD, which is what he experienced from Vietnam.

In this poem the author and teacher Billy Collins is trying to make students appreciate the poetry that he is presenting them when all they're doing is trying to figure out what it means.

#6 Hughes' "A Dream Deferred"

In this poem by Hughes, he is presenting ways that dreams may die in ones lifetime if put aside and not dealt with. Just how he describes it like "rotten meat" or a dried up "raisin in the sun."

The boy, Charlie, meets up with his father after 3 years hoping to get closer with him and form a bond. After meeting with his father, he comes to realization that his dad is an alcoholic and a mean person and eventually decides he would rather have nothing to do with him. Here is the author of the story, John Cheever.

#9 O'Brien's "The Things They Carried."

I actually read this story when I was in High School and fell in love with although it is heartbreaking. The story explains how men from the Vietnam war all carry different things with them, but they do all carry something that they think they will use. They also carry grief with them as well as love for one another, fear, and even bodies of their brothers at times.

This story is about a mother who comes from a generation and culture of people who push their children into activities and expect them to do absolutely perfect such as getting straight A's and even comparing them to other kids to make them want to do better.The daughter, Amy, gets tired of being compared to other people and refuses to play the piano anymore. This story reminds people that children should be able to do whatever makes them happy rather than the parent living their dreams and wishes through their children.

#11 Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz"

In this poem the author explains a relationship with his son as aggressive and somewhat abusive. It seems as if the child thinks he's being playful and doesn't understand what is going on. The author compares the father and how he acts to the dance the waltz.

#12 Walker's "Everyday Use"

Daughter Dee has always been ashamed of where she came from while her sister Maggie has always been appreciative of her life. Maggie is afraid of her thinking her sister is way smarter and that her mother likes her sister more than her. When Dee asks for a quilt from her mother, she knows that Maggie would be more appreciative and would put it to good use, so she gives the quilt to Maggie instead of Dee which then lifts Maggie's spirits and she recognizes her mothers love for her as well.

#13 Glaspell's "Trifles"

In this story Mr Wright is hung by someone, the primary suspect being his wife, Minnie Wright. The sherrifs search the house with the help of their wives. Their wives end up finding clues that could possibly reveal that Mrs. Wright killed her husband. The ladies hide the clues to help protect Minnie because they believe the men "wouldn't understand."

#14 Heaney's "Digging."

In this poem the writer is trying to explain that you should never forget where you came from, yet you should always follow your dreams. He explains this by noting that he is a writer, unlike his father and grandfather who worked on potato drills and cutting turf.. in other words, hard labor. His family is disappointed in him because he is going down a different road, but they eventually become happy for him knowing that it's something he was born to do and something that he loves doing. This poem reminds me a lot of the problems of today, parents wanting their children to follow in their footsteps rather than doing what makes them happy.
