However, with social media and texting replacing other activities, iGen spends less time with their friends in person that causes anxiety, depression, and loneliness.

I can admit that this was an intriguing read to say the least. There were things listed that I never truly payed attention to such as, birthrates dropping and the fear of commitment that iGeners have. I was completely shocked to read, as an iGen, they focus their time on other things rather than what the average young adult would focus on (ex; going out with friends) they have seemed to somewhat cut off the outside world except their parents. I disagree with those feeling as though, relationships take your identity. I believe that applies to those who aren't too sure about theirs. To read that fewer iGeners will ever have children because they feel as though they may not be able to afford them was an also shocker to me because of my knowledge that I have on young adults of my generation sex life. It was interesting reading the different characteristics of iGens.

I agree that many takes the thinking out of dating. I don't agree that women shouldn't speak to men first, I believe if you want something, go get it period. We as a generation, as woman in particular has been structured to have this mentality to play "hard to get" and I think that it's complete nonsense, why be stuck up when you can miss out on a really good thing? I completely understand that men have been known to play women like toys but where does this put the men with good intentions? You see we're in a conflicted love cycle I feel because of what has happened in the old days and the experiences we hear from our parents, cousins, friends, etc. These "rules" that we've been wired to follow and not break are the reason why the cycle does not break. It's basically the same thing generation after generation because of what woman have been told to do, say, or think. I don't think movies or social media makes it any better, most appears to shape marriages and relationships as a toxic, one way street type of thing and I believe that it's completely unfair to the upcoming generation.

Watching the clip and reading chapter 8, I noticed that they both illustrates relationships as complete opposites. In the reading, I basically got the idea of living while you can, especially in your 20's because you don't get those years back, let relationships come when they come. From the clip, I got go aggressively get it and don't allow for a man or woman rather to come to you, "play your cards and follow the rules". So the main differences were definitely viewpoints that is held within. The similarities were social media/movies playing a part in sex. I totally agree with chapter 8 view over the clip's.

This read was very interesting and made me want to keep reading. Seeing that kids between the ages of 14-18 go out more than ages above that rage really caught my eye. I felt that when I was growing up that parents that had kids at of the age of 14 were less likely to let us go anywhere without them. So seeing that it was not the case was quite appealing. In the two chapters there was a lot of information of how it is less likely for our generation to have sex or be in relationships because of how we talk through the phone and don't have enough ambition to talk to a girl or guy in person. When I feel like that is the total opposite, I have seen more pregnant girls in high school than I have in my own family.

I don't agree that women should not go up to a guy if they find them attractive. We have been raised to "play hard to get" but at the end of the day if you want something you won't listen to anyone else but yourself. At least this is what I do. Waiting around and being hopeful for a guy to come up to you is less likely because of how most men are quite shy. When she says "wait 3 weeks to reply" no guy in our generation is going to even remember our name if we don't answer them for three weeks. That's how men work these days, if you want that guy you will do anything to keep him around and if he doesn't chase you then that's when you drop him.

The clip was mostly about how to deal with men and how to go about talking to them. Listing off the rules you should follow if you want to get married eventually. Chapter 8 related to how to be comfortable in your own skin before you start to approach something like a date. Similarities between the two were that they both still had a "rule" perspective and how they wanted the reader/listener to follow some sort of playbook. I definitely relate more with the clip because of how the women talked about there being some sort of process to talk to men because that's how it is still in this generation.

Having watched this video, it was a bit shocking to think that the natural tendency of women is to be outgoing and to want to make the first move, but for some reason, many are mislead to think they need to act "hard to get". At times, men appreciate the the things that come naturally as opposed to thinking that we want women to ignore us at times, or maybe even chase them, while they too have feelings. It's understandable to as to why we are like this to begin with, as we are a species that want to attract what we can't have, but sometimes I feel opportunities are missed with a person if we choose not to speak up

After having read chapter 8, more clarity was brought to the fact that although lifestyle changes between now and years of other generations were different, similar acts of sex and dating took place. Because of todays reliance on technology, many of us are able to access many different forms of communication with people without having to face them in person and being able to avoid uncomfortable situations. I agreed with how online dating is a huge reason many of us are not committing to relationships and rather are okay with just hooking up and having sex. Something that came as a shock were the reasons listed for why our generation feels as though they could not be a parent and listed was because of financial reasons. Though this may be true many young adults are unprepared to be able to be a parent because of sacrificing their free time, lack of commitment and lack of motivation. A lot of these things can be worked upon and a lot of us aren't guided and provided with what is needed to outgrow this hookup culture

After having watched the clip and reading chapter 8, I identify with the clip the most, as it has been the most relevant to my life. At times I have felt as if I needed to act a certain way with people in order to attract them in some way or as if women I have encountered have felt like they needed to act like anything other than themselves. To me, the main difference would be how men want women to be very much themselves while society pushes for them to act differently and unlike themselves. The similarity is how and men and women use rejection as a way of attraction is interesting

I honestly thought it was quite interesting reading about the different ideas that everyone has towards relationships or what ideals/manners of practice think others should have. The part that stood out to me the most was literally on the first page. The mentioning of the idea that people should wait until their 30's to date really stayed with me through the entire chapter. I think it is because of my ideals of how I would like to be starting a family by the age of 27 once I establish myself in my desired career. Especially having my parents as a role model (they had me at 26-27 and met at 21 years old.)

Reading chapter 8 made me a little sad for my generation, I was actually shocked at reading how porn videos being widely accessible has affected the young men in our generation. It showed me that everyone is so caught up in being self consumed and caring what others think that they feel like the hookup culture in college is the norm and that they shouldn't look to date because it's a waste of time and fun. There's such a misconception that having a significant other takes the fun out of college, when in reality having a healthy, mature, and stable relationship can make college years much more enjoyable with the right person. This generation is also lacking emotional connection partly because of having accessibility to dating apps where people no longer need to build some sort of connection before having sex with one another. The data that showed my generation still has hopes of getting married and having kids at the same rate as boomers makes me more optimistic about the future of igen, because I hope the stigma of hookup culture doesn't carry on after college because I personally think it is immature.

This just may be the more pessimistic part of my personality, but I find it incredibly ridiculous that marriage is this perceived end goal to all relationships. Why does every romantic path have to lead to marriage? Why is that the expectation that all women want to get married? Why is it that if a woman is over the age of 30 and not married then she must be doing something wrong? Some people do not have any desire in marriage but still, very much appreciate and prefer committed relationships. So if I meet a man who does not believe in the institution of marriage, is he not worth my time? There is an unimaginable amount of pressure on women to get married and if by a certain age they are not, well then they must be breaking the “rules” of some sort.

Now, just to be transparent, I do not think all of what was said in the video was completely absurd. But that is because some of the “rules” loosely resemble my dating philosophies. However, I do not believe that my philosophies are “right” compared to someone else’s. Or that they are the rules that every woman should follow to get a ring. One of the components of the video that I personally agree with is not waiting by the phone for my romantic interest to call. I think it is important for both men and women to leave space for themselves to be busy and unavailable. But this isn’t some type of ploy that I use to get a relationship or get a marriage proposal. Instead, my mentality of having space is in order to keep healthy boundaries. It is important for me as a person to recognize that I would not drop any pre-existing plans for anyone. But if someone calls me on a Friday and wants to have a date on a Sunday and I have nothing currently planned, then I would definitely consider accepting the date. I am not going to automatically say no just because it was Friday when they asked.

However, if women feel like they want to play by these “rules” out of curiosity or because they want to try a new dating pattern, I will not shame them either. Women and men should be allowed to date in a way that fits them and allows for a healthy dating life. If some women need these rules to set healthy boundaries for themselves, who am I to disagree with or condemn them? After all, feminism is just respecting that women are capable and free to choose their own life path.

Lastly, I want to point out that the interviewer seemed rather appalled that these two women came up with these rules to manipulate men. I think its interesting that anytime women advocate for themselves or try to take their power back, we are being manipulative or disrespectful.

Reading chapter 8 made me realize all the different perspectives people have on dating and relationships. Also, how the things we have access to in our generation such as the internet, porn, and social media all shape how we develop. Due to the fact that our generation (iGen) has access to so many things, we tend to get into relationships later in life. I agree with this stand point because I see it every day how social media and the mindset majority of us develop at a young age makes us not want a relationship. Many people I know have the "no relationship, no problems" mindset. I disagree with the fact that iGen'ers are less likely to have sex as teens and young adults because the same things we have access to like social media, tinder, etc.. that drive us away from being in a relationship, are the same things that drive us into hook up culture, casual sex, and meaningless flings. If anything, we should be more likely to have sex since we have access to tinder and all these dating sites that make it easier for us to just "hook-up". It's intriguing and makes me reflect on how different we are from other generations like our parents and grandparents.- Britney Marrugo

The advice these women gave was a a bit harsh. Yes, the "hard to get" mindset is something common but in my opinion, the way they describe it may drive someone away. I do agree that throwing yourself at a man instantly could get you hurt because if you give your all at once, they might just take it and leave but dismissing someone who is interested in you and constantly playing a "hard to get" game won't land you a happy relationship. Their rules are a bit excessive. There should be a balance between being too available and being dismissive towards someone who may be looking to get to know you.- Britney Marrugo

It was funny to hear these some say never pay half on a date, don't chase a man first, don't call them back for at least three weeks. So much has changed since this was filmed. Nowadays men expect women to pay 50/50 on everything, men want women to chase them, and women call men back almost immediately after a date if they are interested in them. These women in the video were living in a much different generation than the women who live in todays generation. Much more is expected on both male and females nowadays. There were a lot of things I didn't agree with in this video that the women said if you want someone you should just go for it because that could of been a missed opportunity.

Both generations have different approaches on how men and women should approach each other. One of the main differences I noticed was that the video said that the man should pay for everything. In todays society in a lot of relationships things are spilt evenly. A similarity I noticed between the two was the discussion on women chasing men I believe to a point that women and teens in this generation aren't chasing the man. A majority of the time they wait for the man to make a move on them first. I agree more with the chapter 8 approach.

Chapter 8 in iGen was incredibly fascinating to me! One of the best things about the Chapter 8 reading was the comprehensive discussions involving so many subjects about relationships and sexual trends amongst iGen’ers, especially in comparisons with previous generations. There is really so much I would love to discuss about Chapter 8, but I will keep my comments exclusive to just my biggest takeaways.

I want to first discuss the section of Chapter 8, “Sex in the Tinder Generation”, that explores the hookup culture and sexual trends for iGen’ers. I found it extremely shocking that, based on empirical evidence, iGen’ers are having less sex and fewer sexual partners than their predecessors. Based on the narrative so often pushed in all forms of media, I was under the impression that iGen’ers (which is my generation, I suppose) are having more sex than any other generation because of the simple accessibility to it. However, that is not true at all. Numbers do not lie and numbers suggest the opposite. There seems to be a decline among young adults in the iGeneration when it comes to sexual activity. Why is it that even though sex is more accessible, fewer young adults are having it at all? There were so many possible reasons that correlate with the data. For example, Twenge touches upon various explanations such as the decline in social interaction between iGen’ers, unwillingness to participate in hookup culture, fear of safety, and even the rise in oral sex in favor of traditional penetrative intercourse. It is true that people would rather hook up than explore meaningful relationships with one another in this generation. But many people are not comfortable exploring physical intimacy casually and so, they avoid it altogether. Some might feel that hookup culture is emotionless and cold and prefer more traditional aspects of romance and committed relationships in order to feel comfortable enough to even have sex. But then there is another frightening realization about why this generation is having less sex; iGen’ers simply lack socialization skills. They rather spend time on their phones, playing video games, or even watching pornography online than have actual human interaction in person. This makes me sad because it is an innate desire for human beings to seek out connection with one another. Has social media really deprived us of that basic human need?

Another possible reason for the decline of sex amongst iGen’ers that I found most poignant was the iGen’ers’ have an overwhelming, but entirely valid, concern with well-being and safety. It is true that as soon as middle school I was aware of what STDs and STIs looked like on both the female and male genitalia. Before high school, I was warned of what being a teen mom would do to my social life, grades, and future. Basically, health class was a mere scare tactic into not having sex. And still, I am fearful of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. There is a lasting effect that these anti-sex campaigns have on the iGen’ers, even far beyond their adolescent years. Could this really have impacted an entire generation to avoid sex?

There were definitely similarities and differences between the video posted and Chapter 8 of iGen. Firstly, the differences are pretty striking, to say the least. For example, the whole premise of the video is that the end goal for women is to get married and start a family. Maybe that was a trend back when the video was filmed, but not amongst iGen’ers. It is actually the opposite. I bet very few iGen’ers could even relate to the video because it is so outside the trends of their generation. Most iGen’ers want to put off marriage as long as they possibly could; for them, marrying young is not the healthiest or in their best interest. What the video considers as a failure to secure a relationship by your 30s, iGen’ers probably applaud. For the iGeneration, marriage just is not a priority like it once was in previous generations. It has faltered down a list of priorities for iGen’ers. If anything, iGen’ers want to explore their individuality, freedom, and potential before settling down, if settling down is even what they want. As for similarities, the only ones I could find between the video and Chapter 8 is some of the language used about rules to follow. However, Twenge is not providing the rules in iGen, but rather using examples of articles from advice websites such as, “How to Avoid Catching Feelings for Someone”.

I related more to Chapter 8 of iGen mainly because it was more of an educational and research-based discussion, whereas the video was more opinion-based.

I felt I could relate to this reading a lot. Dating at this time in our world is extremely difficult and terribly confusing for everyone. And if you say you aren't confused about it, you're lying. There's too many unspoken rules, boundaries, and ways we are supposed to do things that it doesn't even seem natural anymore. One specific line from the passage stuck with me, "Everyone wants love. And no one wants to admit it." This line perfectly describes dating for my generation and in 2021 in general. Deep down we all want one person who will be only for us, with us, and about us. But with admitting that comes vulnerability, letting down walls, and sharing personal feelings with someone who you have no idea how they're going to react. The statistics about iGen were scary to read, as I do not want to slip into those same bad beliefs about love. Naturally humans are drawn to want to have those emotional connections with people, so why are we trying to push all that away when it's something that is inevitable. We should be embracing the fact that we have found someone that we truly care for, want to take care of, and that makes us really happy. I have never been the type of person to hide my feelings because it's not only unhealthy but also only hinders my opportunity at potentially being with someone I love. The "hookup culture" part of it only makes things worse. I've never been a fan of meaningless hookups, because sure they can be fun but really what's the point of it? When you think about it the only thing you get out of it is temporary pleasure, and usually it's not even as rewarding because there's no emotional bond that has already brought the two of you closer together. Sure it leaves us less lonely for a bit, but when we get home we're alone again, struggling to understand how we got to that position in the first place. At the end of the day it's about who we're waking up to on Sunday morning, and not who we left the party with on Saturday night.

I thought it was pretty sad to see the way these women were talking about dating and men in general. I know that men are very immature and have many flaws, but the "rules" that these women are preaching seem to me like straight-up manipulation. One thing I will never do in dating is play games, I'm going to tell you how it is whether you like it or not because being truthful is the only way any type of relationship can be at all successful. There is definitely a line between playing hard to get for a little bit and playing with a guy's head and ignoring him because he didn't call at the right hour. I know that men tend to do these things to women by their own human nature but doing it back to them seems like stooping to their level and acting the opposite way of how we truly feel. If I like a guy, I don't want to be rude to him, ignore him, or do anything these ladies were suggesting that might ultimately turn him off completely.

From watching the clip and reading chapter 8, I have learned that dating nowadays is truly messed up and twisted. We as humans and a generation have made dating so much harder for ourselves and others for really no good reason at all from what I can tell. The main similarities were that the clip basically confirmed what the article was saying about dating for the iGen people. We've made it harder by making all these rules and laws that need to be abided by, or you won't even catch a guy's eye. I identify with the article more because I am not the type of person who plays games in relationships or hides how they feel from a partner, like the ladies in the video were suggesting.

Something I noticed is that everyone does have different perspectives on dating and everyone does believe their perspective is "the right one". The difference between the clip and chapter 8 is that the women in the clip were a bit aggressive and in a way, belittled other women for not having the same belief as them whereas in chapter 8, everyone had their own individual ideas and it was expressed in an opinionated way, not as aggressive. Their similarities is the obvious, both speak on obtaining a relationship. I definitely find myself identifying with chapter 8 because a lot of the point of views explained about our generation being more independent and their perspective on love I find myself relating to. -Britney Marrugo

Being a woman in her 20's I do agree being in a real relationship can and will get in the way of living life to the fullest. Being alone really builds you as a person leaves you less depending on a person for your happiest. You being to find your own definition of happiness and loneliness, I know I have. From experience I can agree that any form of attachment or relationship can restrict you from reaching your full potential. With hookup culture being so normalized and everyone going into another life just to play head games. I completely understand why other 20 year old's are cautious of commitment. I don't agree that iGens are afraid of commitment I think more than most wants to be in a loving committed relationship, but don't know how. Many from broken home didn't get to experience or witness someone in real love. Being in todays world everyone is so devious, try to be the playa and very materialistic. Having a ball in your 20s and settle down in your 30-40s doesn't sound bad to me. This just isn't the time for love, we're still growing as people.

I thought this was a very interesting read where I obtained information and data that I did not recognize before. It came as a shock to me that this generation is less likely to indulge in sex/hookups as well as committed relationships. It is easier now than ever to be able to have casual sex with people due to all the dating/hookup platforms that are available and are continuing to be on the rise. This pertains mostly to the college years as those are years where young adults are more exposed to sex, drugs, and alcohol more than ever, so it came as a surprise to read that more are pushing away from that in today’s age. I agree that a lonelier generation has evolved due to advanced technology and the variety of social media platforms that have taken the place of in-person interaction. This has caused a desire for those to stay in and communicate with people rather than putting in the work to make plans and get out as well as limiting one’s social opportunities of making new connections in a physical setting. I read that many iGen’ers hold the fear that by committing to a serious relationship, their identity will gradually be lost due to being too influenced by their significant other, which I disagree with. I believe that having a balance for yourself and a significant other can be very much manageable without it getting to the point where you are relying on that person more than yourself. Self-exploration being the purpose of one’s twenties is something that I highly agree with as it is the time to blossom into your true self as well as beginning to make a plan for yourself beyond that. In my opinion however, that does not necessarily mean that you have to be entirely alone in order to achieve that and that all relationships, even romantic ones, can be managed if balanced in a healthy manner.

After watching this video, I agreed with some points about what the two women were saying, and some not. Men have been raised to make the first move, pay for dinners, text/call first, and overall be the dominant figure in the relationship. Whereas women have been raised to kind of just sit back and let it happen as well as “playing hard to get” to test out if the intentions are pure. I believe “playing hard to get” applies for both men and women in dating because completely letting your guard down and doing everything that the other wants and expects you to do can lead to one getting hurt in the end if the intentions weren’t on the same level to begin with. This video was obviously made quite some time ago with a completely different generation as well as the absence of social media and dating platforms. If a woman were to stand by all these rules today, then it may not work out as well as it would have back then because the chase may get tiring and it is that easy now to move on and seek a replacement. In the end though, you are your own self and if you want to pursue an opportunity that is waiting in front of you, then do it because life is too short be asking yourself “what if?”. There have been all of these socially constructed norms and “rules” in the dating realm that I believe should not be taken into consideration nearly as much as it already has.

It is shocking that igen is actually engaging in less intercourse than GenXers because of how much sex seems to be glorified in this generation. I never thought that porn and social media had such an huge impact on teens and their sex life. In this article I agree that dating young does make one more emotionally and socially dependent on their partner. However, I like to think if you know you know when the time is right and that person is the one. One thing I slightly disagree with is meeting someone online is keeping people from having sex . I think if people really wanted to have sex they will meet up and make it happen.

I agree with the idea of playing hard to get because in some cases it may just show you how much someone wants to be with you if they stick around. They are basically just playing hard to get in order to be pursued by men. The inevitable goal is marriage because it brings happiness.

I agree that the way media portrays teen pregnancy and STDs has had an impact on my views of sex. It is interesting that 18 months after Teen Mom aired teen pregnancy rates dropped. I do agree that our generation has less face to face contact which would make sense why we have less sex as a generation as a whole. Although we have more access to hook up with people via dating apps, the fact that we have less interaction with people causes us to have less sex.

I agree that the standard today is that men should chase women. I think it has a lot to do with gender roles changing. In previous generation women relied on men to provide for them so they need to find someone who could take care of them. So now that women can work and have career goals dating has become less of a priority so they can turn down men and expect the men to chase after them.

Bothe the video and chapter had emphasize on dating later in life. In the video the woman was 39 and still dating with the ideology that she should be pursued and didn’t feel the need to be in a committed relationship. This thinking correlates with the statistics from the reading stating younger generations get married later or don’t feel the need to be married to have sex. The main difference between the two readings is the approach as most people said. The video seemed aggressive and almost like women don’t need men in a condescending way while the reading talks more about being comfortable with yourself first so you can build a relationship.

I came across more differences rather than similarities after reading the chapter and watching the video as they both portrayed different views on sex, dating, and relationships. I noticed after reading the chapter that iGen’ers are more likely to hesitate from getting in a committed relationship, especially when reaching the young adult years as that is the critical time to explore and get in tune with oneself. Marriage and family to iGen’ers are not necessarily seen as a priority unlike the video, with marriage and family being the end goal if followed the “rules” right. Marriage and family definitely used to be a much bigger priority than it is today for teens and young adults as the rise in technology/social media, increase in divorces, and embracing self-love, are reasons why most iGen’ers are delaying this aspect of life. The video was very opinion-based and coming from a woman’s point of view. Whereas, the article provided tons of information and data in regards to how iGen’ers view sex, dating, relationships, and marriage/family. It is still extremely common today that men make the first move, pay on a date, text/call first, but I believe those socially constructed norms and expectations have gone down quite a bit since that video was made as women are commonly seen doing these things now and breaking that cycle. It would seem exhausting if I were to obey the rules portrayed in the video today rather than just going with the flow and letting things happen, not making or waiting for them to happen, a perspective that is more present in the chapter. I identify with the chapter much more than the video due to my views relating to it more.

My initial thought was this thinking is outdated. Dating shouldn't be looked at as playing a video game and who has the most points. Dating should be a genuine curiosity in a person and a potential relationship. I understand the idea of the chase and tease, but after a certain amount of time a man will lose interest and move on. Why not be honest with your intention off rip? Its rude in my opinion to have a man or woman waiting by the phone. knowing they are super interested in you. Nowadays we call it being "thirsty" if you seem over excited by having feelings for someone. I find it very corny and misleading to the person your playing mind games with. Why does it seem like everyone must go thru hell first to be loved correctly? These are way too many rules. No date after Wednesday? What if you don't know your weekend schedule till Thursday. They basically saying be a bitch and men will flock. Which to a certain extent with some men are true they love the chase, but in my experience a REAL man will never go for this manipulation and child games. The initial chase makes it fun, but not returning a call for 3 weeks. You're old news to the man now. Men are like women when we go shopping. See something you like, you pick it up. However, if we see something similar with different shape buttons we will buy it. We like both options, but that second pickup has our hearts more. Solely because it has different buttons. With men its the same thing, they'll pick the second woman because she has different buttons and didn't have him waiting 3 weeks for a call back.

From the start of the video, I was very confused as to how this was useful because making men chase after you is simply them going by your looks. If you wont talk to them first they will come up to you just because they think you are attractive. I believe that dating someone is much more than that. As the video went on to the "interview" scene and the two ladies told the woman to move out, I became more against their idea of rules. I lead to this because if she already lives with the man moving out would imply them taking steps back in their relationship instead of forward. At the end of the video I came to the conclusion that their rules were not smart. I want a person to want to go on a date with me for more then just how I look. If they only want to date me because I am attractive to them, I don't want to go on the date.

After reading chapter 8, I was in shock about the information. From what I have always thought was that in the past people would get married younger and have many partners. But from the information given, it is shown that in todays society people will start relationships sooner and even get married. Now that this was brought to my attention, I can see how people start dating young and become relied on their partner. I was very interested in the statement about how relationships in your 20s don't work because that is when you're supposed to be finding out who you are. I don't agree with this because when entering college around the age of 17-18 you are supposed to have most of your life planned out. This includes the job you want to have for nearly the rest of your life. If you can decide on this, why can we not decide who to love around that time too? I agree with the fact of how unmarried woman giving birth has decreased. I know that now time has evolved. This means that there is more information about safer ways to be involved. I believe that woman have become stronger and smarter over the years.

In watching the clip and reading the chapter a main difference I saw was adding social media to the mix. Now that theres social media people don't actually have to go out to find another person of intrest. Theres all these dating sites and instagram, where you can find others and learn about them easily without even having to actually have much of a conversation. It takes away the surprise of meeting a new person in person, because at that time you don't know anything about them and you become intrigued. While with the social media aspect you already know there likes and dislikes and you can decide if you'd be interested in them without even meeting them. The main similarity is how people are approaching love. The chapter talks about how people interacted then and how its different than now. The video talks about how people have been approaching it but there doing it the wrong way. I personally hate to say it but I believe I identify more with the chapter, I was kinda brought up i the mix where social media had started to become a big thing. My parents tried there best not to have me get caught up in it and I believe they did a great job of that but it was still a big factor in my life.

One obvious factor that differentiates iGen with previous generations is the access to endless social media and information. In previous generations the accessibility of information on variants of STDs, pregnancy, and relationships was scarce. Clearly this would develop a divide in the statistical data of sexual activity, longevity of relationships, and pregnancy compared to iGen. I find it hard to believe that today's generation is less likely to participate in sexual activities, especially experiencing a college life and being surrounded by 20 year olds. Another interesting factor is due to social media and knowledge being a click away, younger teens and kids are exposed to explicit content. Resulting in highly sexual pre teens, which can either hinder or benefit these individuals. The process of sexual maturity accelerates tremendously compared to previous generations, but could also lead to other physical or psychological complications. Despite the notion that iGen always has their heads down in their phones it still proves to be beneficial in aspects of life whether sexual or in general terms. Altogether this reading was extremely informational and eye opening.

I would consider this video to be extremely outdated. When it comes to finding a partner no tricks or games should be played. There should be no need for playing hard to get or waiting an extended period of time answer. I believe one of the most important factors of courtship or a relationship is simply maturity. Purposely playing hard to get shouldn't have to be a factor in getting someone's interest as long as you be yourself. Authenticity is more attractive than immaturity and games. It is also quite obvious that the norms of dating have changed and are all situational. For some people a women approaching them could be a complete green flag and for others not at all.

I would say the clear difference between the video clip and Chapter 8 are the approaches taken. You can see how the time periods come into play. Dating in the 90s was very linear in the fact that there was no sexual fluidity and openness like there is now. The idea of relationships and sexuality has become more calm and free flowing then it was before. Obviously the idea of playing hard to get or acting a certain way is still used today, but isn't a key factor like the video states.

I think this is a really interesting read because as a generation these all seem like normal things. But compared to the older generations, our thoughts on life seem like another language to them. I understand hookup culture and waiting till your 30s to get married and why my generation wants to live life that way but personally I am not sure if I want my life to be like that. My parents meet when they were teenagers and got married by the time they were 22 and had their first child (my older brother) at 24. They are still married to this day and I am blessed to have grown up with such good examples in my life and I want to live a similar life. Some of my friends are not looking to be in a relationship like that and they would rather part take in hookup culture so they can really experience their 20s. I do have some friends that are in a serious committed relationship and still finding ways to enjoy their 20s and not lose themselves and the iGen'ers said they were scared of. I think there is a way to be in a relationship and do everything you want to do, you just need to find a person who is willing to balance things the way you are. Overall, it was just really interesting to see all the data and the comparisons made from previous generations.

I feel like if you are your true self you will find mr. right for you no matter what. if its meant to be it will be. On one hand I believe they are manipulating men but on the other, if the women aren't doing it first then the men are going to manipulate us. So, at first I was a bit shocked to hear all the rules like turning down someone you really want to go out with just because they called on the wrong day but after listening more I can understand why they would want to, to leave mystery.

Comparing the video and the chapter, I noticed the difference. In the chapter it talks about how iGen'er do not want to date and are not looking to be committed to anything too serious. In the video the ladies only goal was to get married and get the ring. The ladies in the video seemed a bit older, like the one women was 30, but I think also they might have been in the generation before us because all they can think about is standing at the alter putting a ring on her finger. In the chapter all the iGen'er want to do is enjoy life solo with no string attached and that is why hookup culture started.

I did agree on what was said in chapter 8 about hookup culture. many people from ages 16-25 are almost scared of commitment and being in a relationship. From my personal experience I know many people say that the reason they don't want to be in a relationship is because they feel like it would ruin the full college experience. Also like what was in the IGen reading if college students were asked if they would be considering marriage right after graduation, that is a lot of peoples almost worst nightmares. Most people that I know say they would like to get married, just in the far future, which goes along with the reading of the marriage age increasing with this generation.

I found the information in chapter 8 to be unsurprising. With the multitudes of problems young people face it's not surprising that no one has time for a relationship. Before millennials relatively few people pursued collage careers and could afford to feed and house the family on a single factory job. Now people find it challenging to even afford to educate themselves, let alone find a house they can actually live in. Young adults now spend so much time trying to just get by they have nothing left over to invest into a relationship. Hookups solve this problem by allowing people to have intimacy without the emotional and physical baggage that comes with a relationship. No doubt if younger people could be financially stable we would see similar demographics to Baby Boomers.

I was very taken back about what the 2 women said, because I always felt like it was the complete opposite. I though women would get tired of waiting around for guys and would make. move if stye really like the guy. I also know some guys who personally prefer that, meaning that their rules doesn't usually work on every guy. Also I feel like them using a form of manipulation isn't the best way in finding a husband. It is one thing if a women wants to sit back and let the male pursue her, even if she plays a little hard to get, I feel like the decline of a date because he called on the wrong day is pretty extreme.

I feel like between the clip and the reading there were more differences than anything else. In the reading it was about how people don't want to be in a reaction and kind of just hookup and avoid getting emotionally attached. In the video clip it was about how by simply playing extremely hard to get would make the male like you more and want to pursue you. In this generation if a girl was playing hard to get to that extent in most cases the guy would move on to someone else that is a little bit easier to get with especially because in most cases they are just looking for a hookup. Or at least don't wan't to come off like they are trying too hard if they do want to be in a relationship. I feel like I associate myself mostly with the reading because as a college student that is all I see around me is a bunch of people hooking up to avoid getting in a relationship. I have seen one of my guy friends act so surprised and confused that a girl wanted to hang out with him during the day to get something to eat and you would think she asked him to get married the next day the way he reacted.

Immediately I found the tips these women rely on to be manipulative. If your going as far as 3 weeks until you call someone back you clearly don't care or respect the person that you are pursuing. Playing hard to get only works on getting desperate men who will do anything just for anyone to care about them. Your not going to be developing a long lasting relationship by being difficult. The two women even admitted that you need to manipulate men in order for them to love you. If you convince yourself that the only way someone could ever care about you is for you to trick them into loving you; then clearly you don't want a relationship you just want someone submissive that you cant take advantage of.

The primary difference that I noticed between the video and the text in chapter 8 is the target demographic. The women in the video seem to be targeting other women who have failed in their youth to develop any meaningful relationships with men. While in contrast the majority of chapter 8 discusses young people in general and their lack of interest in developing a relationship. The difference between the two is that the women from the video are actively trying to get the attention of men, while chapter 8 explains that most people are only passively trying to obtain a partner or relationship. I certainly identify with chapter 8 more, considering the video involves encouraging women to be vain and self-centered rather than focusing on the health of their relationship.

The drinking is more contributed to the fact that we are a more health conscious generation. I will disagree about not wanting a relationship in your 20's. It's a shame that nobody really wants to be a kid anymore and instead just wants to kind of speed through life because they think adult life is better. If only they knew. Something I disagree with is the author's statement about how people are having less sex within our generation. I think the advancement in technology has only increased the percentage of people having sex. In today's world, with almost everyone having access to some type of phone, computer, or tablet, it's easier to reach a broader spectrum of people. In addition to this, I also believe more people within this generation are mentally ill and use sex for other reasons besides pleasure (such as self harm). Not to mention how affordable and accessible birth control has becoming.

This is definitely dating advice from the 90's, no doubt. I actually think I have heard a few of these tips in movies like clueless and mean girls. I think it's time to do away with the "classic" style of dating and start expecting your partner to match your energy and effort. And if they don't, then I think to believe one should live their independent life until they do. This video makes it seem like all women talk about are men.
