Materials:

• 2 Clear Jars: Every detective needs observation skills, and these jars will be our windows into the water's secrets.

• Seawater Sample: Grab some seawater from a local beach or tide pool (with adult supervision, of course!). This is our "evidence" to analyze.

• Cooking Oil (optional): A stand-in for real oil pollution, just a few drops will help us visualize the effects.

• Sunlight: Our natural spotlight! We'll use the sun's power to see how the water behaves.

The Experiment:

1. Fill the Jars: Divide your seawater sample between the two jars. If you have cooking oil, add a few drops to one jar to simulate oil pollution.

2. Shine a Light: Place both jars in a sunny spot. Observe closely! How does the sunlight penetrate each jar? Does one seem clearer than the other?

3. Shake it Up!: Give both jars a good shake. What happens? Does the water settle quickly in both jars? Oil pollution can disrupt the natural clarity of water, making it appear cloudy even after shaking.

Imagine a massive oil spill has contaminated a large area of the ocean, filled with plastic debris as well. Your task is to design a solution that can:

• Separate oil from the water: Oil floats due to its lower density. We need a way to skim it off the surface without disturbing the water itself.

• Collect plastic pollution: Think big or small – anything from microplastics to large bottles needs to be scooped up.

• Be eco-friendly: Our solution shouldn't harm marine life or further pollute the ocean.

The team need to DIY their own eco-friendly soap that can help to fasten the oil breaking process. They can test the soap at a mini station. The stations provide : bunga raya, ecofriendly hand wash, vinegar and salt

The rules :

Design and construct floating boom that will:
1) prevent an oil spill from reaching the beach, and
