“I wish we are the ‘South China University of Political Science and Law’!” When Charlie ended the journey of advertising GDUFS to his high school junior schoolmates, he said as thus.

Actually, a Chinese senior high school student usually doesn’t make a clear plan until the second year. When Charlie advertised GDUFS to Grade 3, the suitable entry score and competitive won applaud among them. However, Grade1 and 2 students showed a low interest about GDUFS.

Charlie blamed the displeased result on the name. Grade1 and 2 tend to judge a school by the name instead of its entry score. GDUFS has eight characters in Chinese, which is longer than any other excellent universities in Guangdong Province. (They are commonly less than 6 characters.) A longer name may be annoying, causes extra trouble.

But that’s not the main problem. In fact, the prejudice arisen recently is the main murderer. As Charlie introduced how good the foreign-study-majors are, the student still doubted the future.

Time reversed to the foundation of GDUFS, we must admit that globalization met many barriers under the Iron Curtain. It was spring breeze of reform and opening up blew our positions up. Years later, China continued to develop, while cold war ended in early 1990s. But a confusing problem appeared: while the foreign studies don’t as heat as before?

Somebody says foreign studies face an “overheat” after years of promotion. Unlike IT always needs young genius, foreign studies are expected to a “cooling” after a number of graduates entered the market. This causes the young graduates are not very competitive. What’s more, AI began taking place of some jobs. Although we convince that AI is much foolish than a human interpreter, high school students don’t believe us.

Attract new freshmen by describing the beautiful views doesn’t enough. To show the great intelligence, Charlie turned his strategy to advertise the political majors. Considered the commercial laws are described as uncompleted in China, more students showed their interest. When it comes to that we have the best political majors in Guangdong, a sense of proud finally arose in the students’ chest, even Charlie and his fellows.

That is, political sound different to foreign studies, Charlie spoke the words of the first paragraph.

In my opinion, the change of our school doesn’t mean globalization changed or decline. It reveals a new stage of globalize indeed. Thanks for the senior GDUFSers, the Delta became more and more prosperous. In recent years, AI is expected as a mighty competitor, GDUFS students are forced to chase the new wave of the era. Political is just a reflection of the stage. Like English major students are divided when they enter grade 3, typical language majors are required to be master in some subjects that the country or market really want. As the international business come into our lives, we need more clever brains studying international laws to help set global standards for bussiness. In class, professor also mentioned five dimensions of globalization: economic, political and so on. Economic, which was treated as the first priority or a foundation, also is invested by other financial universities, made our name more embarrassed.

All in all, only flexible and hard-working men can adjust the new environment of globalization. The hot pot of globalization is unpredictable, we students should be a “foreign studies” students but not only good at one part of it?
