What I hope to gain from this class is a deeper understanding of the business side of media and the application of techniques that have been successful in mainstream media, which I can utilize in my future work. I'm a huge note taker, and I plan to ask a lot of questions and really make sure I get a good understanding of everything being taught.

How College Started

I originally went to Pacific University of Oregon for my freshman year to become a social worker, but after being cut from the baseball team, not being happy there, and being convinced to pursue a career in sports because that's where my passion is, I decided to make a leap of faith and transfer to the University of Oregon.

Highschool

I went to Westview High School and graduated in 2023. I like to believe I had a very unique experience while in high school because no year felt normal. My freshman year was shut down halfway, sophomore year was all online, junior year was back in person but under covid protocols, and my senior year felt like I could get all of the time I missed back.

I was born in Long Island, New York, and moved to Oregon in 2009. I was a 4-year-old walking around the West Coast with a very thick New York accent. I've visited New York almost every summer to see family, so I still very much consider it home. Can't take the New Yorker out of me.

My Family

I live with my heroes. My Mom, Dad, and older brother Louis. All three of them made me the person I am today and have taught me how to be a hard worker while having fun in what I do. The West Coast is my Mom's side, which is a huge Filipino family, and my Dad's side is the East Coast which is a lot of Italian New Yorkers.

How College is going

My Sophomore year at UO was everything I had dreamed my freshman year would be like, but this time around, I had a set plan for my major: pursue Advertising and Sports Business. I was also awarded a scholarship and met some of the best classmates and professors. Being in the same curriculum that my Uncle Alex used to teach, it motivates me even more to make him proud and write my own story.

Baseball

I played baseball for all 4 years of high school. I was an outfielder and 2nd baseman because I'm short and fast. One of my favorite memories was winning a wood bat tournament against Jesuit, who was under defeated. I hope to play club in college and maybe coach in the near future. This game made me into the person I am today.

I'm someone who lives by the never-satisfied mentality, and if I set a goal, I'm going to keep chipping away until I reach it. My end goal is to graduate from UO, remain on the dean's list, meet more amazing people, have a job I can look forward to going to every day, and have enough money to set my family up for life.

I was named after my late Uncle, Alex Tizon, who was a Pulitzer Prize winner, a journalism Professor at the University of Oregon, and just a beloved family man. It's more of an honor to be named after him; I also see it as a curse because he'll never get to see any of what I'm doing now in the SOJC. My family and I miss him every day, but I know we're all making him proud while he watches us over. My lola gave us the nicknames "Big Alex and Little Alex."

The Future Career

My future career goal is to work in sports apparel, such as Nike, Adidas, or even the big leagues, such as the NFL, MLB, NBA, etc. My main choice would be Director, Business Operations, Executive Assistant, or Product Operations Specialist for Nike. The reason why I want to work for Nike is that it matches my work ethic, meets my desired salary, has very close connections to UO, and my passion of sports apparel and influencing the audience. It's also in my hometown of Beaverton, Oregon, where I grew up. I'm not putting all my eggs into one basket; I'm very open to working anywhere, but Nike is my top choice.
