In this photo, there is learning in the environment in the background. Behind the student, the microwave is labeled. Not only is it labeled "microwave", but it also provides a picture of the microwave, a picture example of "microwave" in sign language, and below the word "microwave" is in braille. This is learning in the embedded environment because although this is a preschool classroom and many of the students can not read, all of the materials in the classroom are labeled in this way to help the students understand what the materials in the classroom are. They have many different ways of identifying the materials through different forms of speaking or reading. Having the actual word labeled along with the other forms of labeling is a way to help promote reading. It also is a form of differentiation by providing accommodations for students who can not see or need sign language to understand the environment around them.
