In 1789, a rumor spread that the king and the nobles were conspiring against them all and were trying to starve them all to death and overthrow the Third Estate. Considering food was continuing to run low and more people were dying each day, this seemed to be the only explanation for the people at the time and were sent into mass hysteria. They added to the anarchy and death by raiding noble estates and burning down property. The inability to act on this from Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI set the publics view on political figures in stone.

A turning point for the French Revolution was the National Convention, an assembly held from September 20th, 1792 until October 26th, 1795. During this time they established a new constitution for France, declarations of war, and most importantly got rid of the Monarchy in favor of a Republic. With Louis XVI and other nobles removed from their position because of the new republic, they were no longer needed in the ongoing battle. This begins one of the most iconic parts of the French Revolution.

After being convicted of treason for attempting to flee France and supposedly working with Austria, who they waged war against, King Louis the 16th was executed by guillotine. His wife Marie Antoinette followed months after. Death by a guillotine became the most quintessential aspect of the French Revolution due to just how many decapitations took place in one time period and how they represent the power people can have when change is needed.

During the Reign of Terror, the period that Robespierre ruled in with the Committee of Public Safety, over 40,000 more people were beheaded, thousands more dying in prison and beaten, making it one of France's bloodiest times. The misery was put to an end on July 28, 1794 when Robespierre was finally removed from power by other leaders and executed along with his allies. The fight didn't stop there, but this was just another step in the development of France that made it the republic it is today.
