         <description><![CDATA[<div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Hard to assist students later in life, important to catch early</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Most effective: Explicit instruction, Systematic instruction: saying sounds, blending sounds, Differentiated instruction essential (RTI: Tier I instruction).</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; National Reading Panel: 5 Essential Skills: Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary, Comprehension</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; NRP: research based teaching, government run, cornerstone of the federal literacy policy</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Phonic awareness: the understanding that spoken words are made up of separate units of sound that are blended together when words are pronounced</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Phonics: Phonics instruction is intended to help young readers understand and use the alphabetic principle</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Fluency: close relationship between fluency and comprehension</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Vocabulary: Young readers use the pronunciations and meanings of words in their oral vocabulary to help them recognize words they see in print</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Comprehension: constructing meaning that is reasonable and accurate by connecting what has been read to what the reader already knows and thinking about all of this information until it is understood</div><div>I will use these facts during my teaching to help my students be the most successful with their reading and overall success in their school career.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is a strategy used to explain students wrong answers so that it can be used as a teaching opportunity</div><div>- assess all students individually then collect answers and pull out the “favorite no”, or a wrong answer</div><div>-be sure to explain what parts of the question the students did correctly and never name the student</div><div>I plan on using this strategy as a way to assess what students are learning and what needs to be taught again. I will use the wrong responses from student to re-teach the areas of need. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Hard for children to link sounds to letters (phonics) to read new words, cannot comprehend what they are reading, develop a sense of failure</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;most important part of learning, builds a foundation&nbsp;</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;less than 1/3 of 9 year olds were proficient in reading, learning and enjoyment lost</div><div>-&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;National Reading Panel- research based learning, importance of phonics, read with partner (not only independent silent reading), need to learn vocab</div><div>I will keep this research in mind when teaching students of my own.
