In this video I talked about the spread of English and its implicaton to the ELT.

First of all, I mentioned that at the beggining of the 19s or before that world language wan not English, it was French and Enlish was a bad language in that era espacially poor people or have a bad status speak the English badly. But with the industrialisation, power of England and America wold language became Enlish.

And then I mentioned that I didn't learn Enlish at school I learned it through movies, series and songs. Because school didn't work, espacially in middle and high school. We just learned grammar, we just improve the reading and writing skills.

But it can be changed. As a teacher, we need to care about the variety of material, activity. I am not talking about the fill in the blank tests. speaking and listenin activities should be involved effectively.

In this video I mentioned that there are a standart Enlish and non standart Enlish that is spoken by non-native speakers. I examplified it saying Russian Englis and Turkish Enlish are different, Russians have a strong tongue thaats why sounds are coming out of the mounth strongly but in the Turkish Enlish we speak so straight and thats why sounds are coming out of the mount so straight. But it is understood if we say the word correctly, we don't have to speak like a native speakers. Native speakers don't blame us because of our accent. But surprisingly non-native speakers in their country like us, bully themselves because of their accent.

And also we mentioned about it in ELT. For me it is confusing because some teachers defend that we need to speak like a native speaker but on the other hand, the others say that you don't have to. But I said that I prefer to speak like a native-like speaker because I am the one who bully someone because of their accent, actually not accent its about prnounce of the word. But like I saidin the video WHAT A SHAME ON ME I shouldn't have done that.

So at the and I finished my words by saying I guess we dont have to speak like a native speaker.
