“ But I was a writer wasn’t I? I love words,to me,papi was still my papi and words didn’t have to be the enemy destroying my family.” Anna Rosa Realize how the power her words is when she wrote the poem for her family. Her writing is so powerful because her family came together even when they were all angry about her father. Quote 2 “He is my papi, and the man on the mule is a story”Anna Rosa is realize that what ever happen with the man on the mule was the passed and has done nothing for her as she grow up so he was never anything to her. Every though the man on the mule is her father by blood but not her father who is with her. Anna Rosa doesn’t believe that the man on the mule is her dad papi is her father as much as Anna Rosa knows.

“One girls words, I thought can they be that powerful? It was time to find out. I would write a poem, I decided, and I would give it to Miami and papi and they would know everything and nothing at the same time”. This shows how Ana Rosa has developed as a writer and kind of developed a new relationship with her family.

The Power of words

In the last paragraph of page 92 and the first of page 93, the author states, “One girl’s words, I thought, can they be that powerful? It was time to find out. I would write a poem, I decided, and I would give it to Mami and Papi and they would know how words are everything and nothing all at the same time. Because the man on the porch drinking his rum is my Papi, and the man on the mule is a story!”

I chose this quote because this was where Ana Rosa is going to prove to her parents that words can be really powerful and nothing at the same time and she's going to show it by writing a poem that says that Papi is her father. That he has been there all the time and not the man on the mule and that’s why he is her Papi. This is going to prove that words are powerful because she is writing a poem that mends back her family after she finds out she has a different father.

Relationship Development

In page 92 paragraph 1, the author wrote, “ From somewhere inside myself, I knew that Mami needed me and that she had a whole bunch of words and questions fighting her like I did.”

This shows relationship development because it’s here where she is connecting her(Ana Rosa) feelings with Mami's to know that at that time Mami needed Ana Rosa so she can explain the story of what happened or just needing her for comfort. How Ana Rosa is thinking about not just her it’s her developing selflessness which will help her a lot while writing because she will be writing stories maybe about another person and not poems about how she feels about things and that will make a great story.

“But I was a writer wasn’t I? I loved words.” (Page 92) I choose this because Anarosa can’t write but she wants to. She can’t write because the government is the only one can write that is a conflict between Anarosa and the government.
