Thus showing their hostility against them. For example, many foreign tenants in Singapore have difficulties in renting HBDs because of their nationalities. A report on 24 April found that there were more than 160 housing adverts on the website PropertyGuru that clearly stated that the landlord did not wish to rent to Indians and/or mainland Chinese.
This is mainly due to the Not In My Backyard (NIMBY) syndrome, which leads to the xenophobic behaviours and discrimination. Singaporean landlords afraid that foreigners cook 'heavy smell' dishes, such as curry, which affects their future opportunities of leasing housing properties. As a result,  landlords tend to reject offer from foreigners after knowing their nationality.

According to this research report by SMU graduates, most of the people with disabilities have indicated that they need caregivers to help them with carrying out basic movements.  Many of them faced challenges with their transition from education to employment. For example, one of them (cannot reveal identity) had difficulties finding an internship, because he needed constant care from his domestic worker but he was not allowed to bring her to help him. According to MOM’s “employment rules for foreign domestic workers,” it is only legal to ask a domestic worker to perform tasks outside her place of residence if she is caring for a child or an elderly person; there is no mention of a disabled person. Further, the penalty for breaking this rule is fine of up to $10,000.31. Thus, due to this, it is difficult for one with mental and/or physical disabilities to find a job. Hence, there is still room for improvement in our society to achieve greater inclusivity and acceptance towards the mentally and physically challenged.

This coupled with the popularity of social media platforms (which are dominated by western influencers often promoting and encouraging activism) among Singaporean millennials has caused many of the liberal ideals of the west to be imparted and thus accepted by thesm, with the championing of LGBT rights being one such ideal propagated by the west. A survey done by the Institute of Policy Studies revealed that the young in Singapore have become increasingly more tolerant of LGBTQ realations throughout the years. This is incongruent with the conservative  beliefs which majority of Singapore holds. However as the younger generation replaces the old, shift may occur in the way policies with repercussions for certain social groups are crafted and handled, with individual liberties being put as priority.

This is because we have now gone from Third World to First World, and our needs and aspirations have changed accordingly. In his third lecture, Mr Peter Ho describes well how this process happens: "As government policies lead to improvements, the needs of the people change in tandem. This is explained by Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow's proposition was that after the basic physiological needs of a person are met, more complex psychological needs will have to be fulfilled. At the top of this hierarchy of needs is the need for self-actualisation, which is to realise the individual's potential, and transcendence, which is helping others achieve self-actualisation.
